what's wrong with female sexuality? :grr:

There ain't nothing wrong with a female asserting her sexuality and her sexual prowess honey, I just think that BEYONCE did it a bit too much. Too tacky for me, I guess? (Ooohhh gurl Drunk In Love, Rocket was a cringe fest at times). And when you compare BEYONCE to Lemonade you can see how BEYONCE was more... detached? I think Lemonade is somewhat closer to Beyonce's life and persona.

I'll copy paste what I said to a member:

Lemonade is the best thing she did, the project as a whole (as in the songs with the videos and dialogue) yes that is the best thing she did in her career, a political and personal visual masterpiece that will speak to many audiences and push the boundaries of artistic freedom and the way we perceive album releases.

However once you take it apart and the documentary is no more and you just listen to them as individual songs, then no it is not her best solely musical effort. In my opinion, Sasha Fierce remains her best musical effort, maybe it seems that Sasha Fierce is now basic or too popish but back then it was an innovative idea for Beyonce to release a double-disc yin and yang record that merges the sounds of urban hip-hop and mainstream pop. I mean cmon it's hard to say that a song on Lemonade is better than let's say Halo or Sweet Dreams or If I Were a Boy or Single Ladies, all being songs so iconic and meaningful till this day.

Now about BEYONCE (the album) the same thing applies, Lemonade is the more powerful project and a stronger visual even if not necessarily better of flashier than self-titled's videos, the themes expressed at the core of the documentary along with the use of provoking dialogue blows what Self-titled stands for out of the water. But the songs on BEYONCE are better in my opinion than those on Lemonade, if I judge the songs themselves, I rarely see myself listening to most of the songs on Lemonade while BEYONCE offers solid and effective songs such as Drunk In Love, XO, Pretty Hurts, Flawless, Jealous, Haunted, Partition heck even 7/11. Basically, self-titled has a variety of songs for many audiences and even though the songs are somewhat experimental they have a commercial air to them, making them easier to take in than lets say the songs on Lemonade.

Overall Beyonce should be proud of Lemonade, for it truly is the greatest symbol of her artistry and perhaps the highlight of her career, that will be remembered many years ahead.

Her self-titled has more bops, but Lemonade is a flawless piece of work that showcases endless artistry. I love both equally for different reasons.

I didn't vote since I can't make up my mind, and I won't know for sure for 2-3 months. I think you\'re way too fast to judge. Let the hype settle down and see what's left.

One thing I know for sure, that will stay with me - the music is becoming more and more hidden in her latest albums. 4 is the best one speaking in terms of music, ST is a much better project, but the hype around it hid the fact that it had a much more commercial side than 4. Still the idea was crazily good. LEMONADE takes things up a notch, and definitely takes the crown as a visual project. The album is extremely personal. But I think the music makes sense exclusively in the film. Without it, there are barely any standouts (Freedom, 6 inch, All Night) and the rest feels a bit like filler. So for me, when you put 4 next to ST next to L, there is an increased emphasis on the story, the visual that is trying to make up for weaker music. But even that way these 3 albums stand out to her first 3. Even though I miss that catchy diva side to Bey, serving bops and shaking a$$, it's clearl that this formula cannot work for eternity. She is no longer there for that kind of entertainment. She is leaving a mark with her art and I'm supporting it.

Leaving 4 out of the equation, I have to say All Night is easily beats everything on ST. But ST had also a lot of strong material especially the more experimental stuff - Ghost/Haunted, Mine, Flawless, Superpower. Its sexiness is undeniable - DiL, Blow, Rocket, Yoncé/Partition. The pop side is also alright - PH, XO, Heaven, Blue. The only "mehs" for me are Jealous and No Angel. Compared to LEMONADE - Hold Up, Don't Hurt Yourself, Daddy Lessons, Formation - I can't stand these. :laughga: But here's to hoping they'll grow on me.

oh honey Jealous, No Angel & Blue are among the best in ST. But I agree that lemonade makes a lot more sense/is better with the film.

Lemonade by a long shot. There are some songs I love on self titled, but as an entire album, Lemonade just does it for me. I really love concept albums because it's not just like random songs strung together. It's a full, complete story. Lemonade may lack *according to a majority* radio friendly bops, but to me, it has more body to it.
