Metamorphoses/chaos/darkness misc. thoughts

I have something small to add to the LG5 theme discussion (beware i am very aware this could all be a serious reach... i haven't tied anything together but with the frequent mentions of chaos, the 'art of darkness', butterfly symbolism, & time.. some of this may be relevant.

There is a latin poem called Metamorphoses by Ovid (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphoses) - I was reading a description of it from student websites to understand it a little better and certain parts jumped out at me (p.s this could all be meaningless but interesting nonetheless):

- "The poem begins with the promise that we will hear how "bodies are changed into different bodies." Ovid then summons the gods, asking them to reveal how the world was created and to aid him in his task. He says that first there was something we can call Chaos: darkness and formlessness. Then, a powerful being divides the chaos into substance."

"At the beginning of the Metamorphoses, Ovid accomplishes several things. First, he defines the world of the poem. He is going to tell the reader, how "bodies are changed into different bodies." Ovid then demonstrate that he means "bodies" in the loosest sense: in this poem, he is going to address all kinds of transformation, from the transformation of Chaos into the Universe to literal physical transformations, to the founding and destruction of cities, the evolution of man, and even pedestrain emotional transformations. In other words, this poem examines transformation as an omnipresent force in the universe, affecting high and low, mythic and ordinary forces alike."

- "The first transformation -- Chaos into the Universe -- illuminates a few general characteristics about these events. Transformations are never truly spontaneous. Chaos does not transform itself into earth, a powerful being transforms it. There is always something which does the transforming and something which is transformed (though in rare cases people can transform themselves). Consequently, this book is also about relationships, most often the relationship between that which has the power to transform and that which is transformed. This relationship most often exists between the gods and mortals."

-  "In the first chapter, W. lays out a kind of "chaos theory" for the opening of the poem, suggesting that in the midst of the unpredictability of chaos Ovid is able to reproduce the cyclical nature of myth as it gradually moves towards history. The poet's repetition of the theme of chaos suggests how natural chaos becomes an allomorph of spiritual chaos, a movement of order to disorder, ultimately returning to order that is commensurate with the manner in which the gods themselves have been transformed within the poem."

- "Ovid’s Metamorphoses also trawled Greek mythology, as well as Roman legend, in attempting to reconstruct the series of metamorphoses the world had undergone between the original state of Chaos and Julius Caesar’s supposed transformation into a star:

“Before the sea and the lands and the sky that covers all,
there was one face of nature in her whole orb
(they call it Chaos), a rough unordered mass,
nothing except inactive weight and heaped together
the discordant seeds of unassembled things.
” "

- This is just me reaching for saturn but the author of Metamorphoses is Publius Ovidius Naso... maybe Gaga feels some sort of connection considering Naso, Sicily is where her dad is from? (ready to be stoned for the reach :laughga:)

- "Perictione II is known as the author of a text named, On Wisdom, which begins: "Mankind came into being and exists in order to contemplate the principle of the nature of the whole. The function of wisdom is to gain possession of this very thing, and to contemplate the purpose of the things that are."" this reminds me of one of gaga's insta captions from a while ago, "Another caption of hers: My life feels like a movie in slow motion. And as I try to live in the moment and be mindful I realize I'm writing the script to the next scene. Is this the source of the torture of the artist? We must be inspired by nature and yet we are constantly synthesizing it so do we ever live it? Or are we always writing it's next great fantasy? Are we playing God? Because certainly it would be foolish to think one could create something more beautiful than nature itself."

- Also, this book is most likely not related but it's called "Women, Metamorphosis of the Butterfly Effect", and i found this description interesting: "The book contains stories of women who "have been defying and transforming traditional forms of thought and analysis, from the sciences to art, to human rights and politics," explained Suarez.  She continued, "Their contributions have led important changes in paradigms, changes in the ways that we understand and make sense of our world.  However, these women and their actions have been never been recognized or were misinterpreted."  (http://www.radiofeminista.net/agosto08/notas/book_maria.htm

- Some other relevant quotes https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Metamorphosis

Just a reminder about why I think all of this could be important, check out this thread:

Specifically she quoted this in a caption, "During my my first [psychotic] break the content of my delusions involved questions of human existence that went back to the beginning of time. - Mark Vonnegut M.D."

What a great OP, hopefully Gaga's inspiration is somewhat related to this. It sounds very interesting and complex. I don't know how a conceptual album would work again for Gaga.

Pink flamingos always fascinated me.

Like, TFM was amazing and everyone liked it, it got so much critical acclaim and DITD was even nominated for a Grammy without any promo or official single release but then ARTPOP was out and it wasn't a conceptual album per se but she was very vocal about the ART+POP fusion and the whole artistic revolution reverse warholian expedition and well, we all know how that ended.

Now, if we examine both releases, TFM was done in a more lowkey manner while ARTPOP was full of itself and so was Gaga, I believe her overconfidence and unimaginable reach were the sole causes of AP's demise.

Pink flamingos always fascinated me.

If Gaga is still unsure with thinking about the concept .. at least we are not. She could just copy that into her Album Booklet  - done. LG5 release tomorrow. :emma:
