That statement can also be interpreted as "gays not liking what some of these companies are doing to us, by refusing us services..."

So it can be interpreted in BOTH ways depending on the person actually... ☝🏾️

One wonders if this is neutrality or complacency.

The original title was accurate. It is pretty obvious that he was referring to gay people when he said get over it. He was referring to religious people when he said that they should just pray. His statements were divided into two parts.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm not sure why private businesses should be forced to sell their products to someone they'd rather not sell their products to. If a company decides that they don't want the business of black people, or queer people, my response would be to boycott the company. Hopefully boycott it out of existence. But I'm not convinced forcing a private company to sell products to someone they'd rather not sell the product to is ethical.

We live in a country where "money" is legally considered a form of speech, why doesn't that freedom extend to how private business conduct themselves?

If I'm being an idiot, someone break it down for me.

You're no idiot. It's happening in NC, with hilarious results.

Nod if you wanna make love with the enemy. ❤

Well it really depends of the service and how do people interpret the law.

The Civil Rights Act says:

"Outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion or national origin in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters, and all other public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce".

So basically discrimination towards people based on gender and sexual orientation can be considered "legal" unless there is a different law that protects those groups in that state.

Anyway I don't think the idea of letting people boycott private business is the best option. The discussion in the states where this kind of discrimination is legal is way more scandalous and divisive that in states where it's illegal to discriminate people based on their gender and sexual orientation.

But wouldn't this just be going back to the segregation days? I'm sure this is the same logic that was used back then.

Imagine a society where you have to check if you can be served or attended before walking into a store.

Bette Davis

I love when people who have never been discriminated against in their life just tell people to just "get over it," as if asking to be treated equally is such a nuisance to them. Makes my blood boil :grr:

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

But wouldn't just boycotting them into submission until they relent & serve LGBT people, just be the same result as the aforementioned approach anyway???!

I've seen it said a lot that he's a wolf in sheep's clothing in regards to claiming to be all forward thinking and electable when a lot of his actual policy positions and past voting is very conservative and as bad as the other two. He's trying to tell the GOP base 'come on guys, let's wait until AFTER the election to talk about this stuff'.

EXACTLY!   He is Conservative, the other two are just plain Radicals...  :smh:

He expanded entitlement spending in his state and vetoed similar legislation in OH. He has a fantastic track record as a conservative moderate governor. Take a seat.

John...

John no...

JOHN RICHARD KASICH GO TO YOUR ROOM AND THINK ABOUT HOW YOU'VE LET ME DOWN!

Still the best Republican candidate, and the one I will be voting for in the primary, but damn.  I'd like to see him be in my shoes as a young gay Republican and get fired for being gay, and have somebody in his party leadership suggest that he "get over" his rights.  Yeah, at the end of the day, I did get over being fired, but I shouldn't have had to.  We really shouldn't have to pass legislation to prevent people from being assholes to other people, but unfortunately, we have to, and I'm ashamed that my party can't produce a single candidate who can be 100% consistent in his support of basic civic opportunities of housing, employment, and equal service.  Shameful.

That said, still #NeverTrump #NeverCruz, sooooooooo.   :rip:

And if it was just him misspeaking, then he still needs to clean up his act, because a presidential candidate should be more clear than that. :tea:

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.
