It's just getting ridiculous now. Timing can be everything when getting a hit and this song was timed to perfection. At this time last year, Uptown Funk was owning the charts with 14 consecutive weeks at #1. She wouldn't have had a prayer back then. There's just no competition at the moment on the US charts, so she going to the top by default. I just don't get why anyone would listen to this song and think: "This is downloadable worthy." How can anyone even understand what she's saying in the chorus most of the time to enjoy it? You can't even dance to it, it's totally boring. It's so ironic that she's dancing in the video because this song is just un-danceable.

Just because some people don't like it doesn't mean that we can't open ourselves up to a different kind of music. There's understandable dancehall out there you can actually dance to! One of those is Cheap Thrills - it's like an intelligable version of Work and I'm one of the few who actually think it's improved by the Sean Paul verse, so it's not like I'm against traditional Caribbean vocals. It''s been a massive hit for Sia, I bet Rihanna feels really bad about rejecting it now! Pity the only country it's not taking off in is America, which is pretty ironic, all things considered. It just shows that big names sell regardless, even if they're selling s**t. And it doesn't mean we're jealous of an artist other than Gaga getting success. Any artist who's putting out quality music is fine in my book. It's bad songs being successful that gets to me no matter who they're from. Work had better not rival the success of Rihanna's previous hits, it doesn't deserve it. It's the worst lead single she's ever put her name to. I remember the days when her lead singles were killer - what happened?

Mess if Gaga had a #1 for nine weeks everyone on here would be lapping it up :rip:

Congratulations to Rihanna for having such a successful single.

Gaga wouldn't release a song like this :emma:

And if you just say that stuff cos you're in pressed stan mode and can't stand seeing someone other than Gaga be so successful, then... well you do you I guess

This is pretty accurate. They think that just because the song went #1 it is what you'd call a successful lead single and better than Gaga's material, when in fact, Gaga's "flops" sold 2 times more than this "smash". :sis: Misinformed stan mode. :chica:

it wasn't laaaahv

Obviously. They're completely different artists. But if you think that anytime a Gaga song has gone number one that there hasn't been cries of "this is what tops the charts now?" then you're crazy. It happens with literally every number one.

People just get too worked up about this stuff. You aren't gonna like every number one but that doesn't necessarily it's bad... And clearly there are a lot of people who think it's good, otherwise it wouldn't have been #1 for nine weeks. Whatever the formula, it's getting rotation somewhere. That's why I never understand the outrage at stuff like this. Suck it up and celebrate what you do personally like lol.

I tried so hard to like 'Work'. I watched both of the sh!tty music videos. I listened to it like a dozen times. But every single time, I hated it more and more.

Congrats to her for making a bad song go to #1 for 9 weeks. More power to her. :toofunny:

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I notice that many of the top songs lately from Rihanna to Drake have a lot of mumbling.

Is that the cool thing now?

For the 1000000000000000000000000th time, the formula is a mess :rip:

But doesn't every artist have access to this "formula"? Idk the ANTI's stats but ppl do listen to "work" a lot. Whether bought or streamed. This song is one of the more authentic songs on the radio. By that i mean its one of the stand outs. And you have to admit that it has a catchy hook lol

I heard the song over 200 times!!! I honestly think it's my favorite Rihanna song. I can barely go a day without playing it... it actually helps get through my day. Go Rihanna! This song deserves a grammy. :flutter: Kiss It Better you will have to wait, I'm still on Work honestly.

I love Rihanna but Work is bad in term of quality. That's sad a song like this is holding so strong... Sad for music industry

Yeh a song talking about not letting things stress you out and continuing on about life and just having fun. Oh soo... terrible for the music industry. :flop:

Rihanna has countless #1s against competition far more than Uptown Funk. I don't know if you just cannot dance. The song is played a lot at clubs and definitely easily to dance to... there are lyric sites. This is America. It's not hard to try to understand other dialects. If it was Spanish, I doubt it would get the same treatment.

the fact that this lazy ass song is still sitting at #1 :saladga:

after all maybe it's a good thing that Gaga doesn't hit the top spot with her singles anymore :emma:

i dont see why yall think this song is crap when we literally had p p p poker face p p poker face. the only thing slightly redundant about the song is how the hook is written but its catchy. just like poker face, and the verses have just as much substance as any other song out there. you all just like to complain. and ive said it before and ill say it again. get over the streaming formula cause literally everyone streams now; hopefully gaga is smart enough to utilize it.
