Hmmm...I mean, I get your point. I think they should really find a way for her to speak about it, though. Let's be honest, she gets more media coverage than Bill does when it comes to speaking (being the nominee and all). She's made tons of speeches and I really think this would be something good for her herself to mention to combat a lot of the Sanders campaign attacks.

As a Hillary Clinton supporter, I have to be honest and let you know the (probable) REAL reason why she does not bring up her association & tutelage from Marion Wright Edelman, is because they had a really bad falling out back in the 90's when Bill Clinton signed The Welfare reform act into law.  Marion & others(including) people who worked in the administration at the time resigned in protest over the signing of that bill by Bill Clinton.  Their main complaint was that this bill did nothing to help impoverished people, minority communities & children as a whole.  But would do the exact opposite & increase poverty within those communities & demographics.  Hillary has already been criticized about this issue by some in the black community & of course BLM during this campaign so far...  Sooooo yeah!  :green:

Some of you have expressed bewilderment as to why someone like Bernie Sanders would put a biblical quote in this political ad for?!  Well as a black person, let me tell you why...  Everyone knows the African-American community is notoriously religious & he is obviously playing to this notion.  Hence the bible reference, even tho he himself is a non-religious person.  So like it has been mentioned before on here, it is very much so pandering...  :hor:

You're putting to much weight to the term abuela. Abuela is the literal translation to grandmother and Hillary is a grandmother. Abuelas and grandmothers come in many shapes, colors and backgrounds but at the end of the day they are all grandmothers and they all have that in common.

You're telling me a Hispanic person with an abuela why I'm supposed to be offended at that article. It was meant to be humorous. People automaticly demonize Hilary. I think it's pretty incredible that we are having a conversation about a funny article that was not to be taken seriously in any way.

Also the Sanders ad has a Christian bible verse and used a picture of MLK. When did he change religions? When did it become ok to plaster MLK's face on campaign ads? I don't remember, but I don't even think Obama had an ad with MLK and he's black. Did he even use a Christian bible verse? If he did at least he was Christian. How can you be ok with this? Lol

Did he have a Christian verse? My phone screen was too small to see it well. That is annoying. I hesitate to use problematic because I think it's overused and diminishes actually problematic things.

I don't think that ad was meant to be humorous. I could be wrong, but the Clinton campaign doesn't really role with that. Not entirely serious maybe, but idk if I'd say humorous.

and no, I'm not telling you you should be offended, but I am saying that that article is pandering which it is. You can be offended if you want to be, but you can't tell me she would have used abuela if she wasn't trying to win the Hispanic voters with its usage. The intent behind its use is what constitutes it as pandering. I mean, the Sanders one is too, but idk I think hers rubs me the wrong way more since she constantly panders to minorities like that hot sauce comment she made on The Breakfast Club.

I mean, she's definitely qualified to be president in a number of ways, but that's one particular thing that bothers me about her campaign. Instead of saying what she has actually done to help these communities, she panders to them or spins other candidate's stuff hard to make it sound like they're against those groups. Like that mess she did a few months back saying Sanders was sexist was reaching at its finest.

Can you please find me a quote where H. Clinton calls Sanders a sexist? Please just one quote in all of the enormacy that is the "internet." This is again Bernie supporters demonizing Hillary and using the fact that she is a woman and can use the term sexist, yet she has not used it to call Bernie a sexist. Bill used it to describe the behavior of some of Bernies supporters. Are you going to tell me Bernie's supporters have never made sexist remarks?

This one. It isn't explicit, but it is implied, heavily. You don't go to a women's event and say, "I’ve been told by some to quit talkin’ about this, to quit shoutin’ about this. Well, I’ll tell you right now, I will not be silenced, and we will not be silenced." without insinuating that the opponent is sexist.

You're 100% right about some Sanders supporters being sexist, but Clinton did accuse him of sexism.

She didn't use term sexist. If a man went and said the same thing it wouldn't be sexist. Lol this article is sexist, it assumed she was saying Bernie was a sexist only because she is a woman. The truth, because you Bernie supporters love the truth supposedly, is that she has never called him a sexist. She stated she was told to be quiet and she will not be quiet. How is that accusing someone of sexism?

He's telling Hillary to quit talking about an important women's issue for no reason at all.

If that's not sexism, then I don't know what is. Silencing women is one of the leading causes of female oppression.

But she didn't actually call him a sexist, because she knows better. It could have been a sexist misstep. It happens.

Silencing women is a source of female oppression, that is true...

Except that there's really no indication that there's even a gendered aspect to it at all, this was about gun control and voting history :duck: Clinton is the one who made into a sort of "I as a woman, will not be silenced!" after the debate -- This rhetoric is pointedly supposed to strike with feminist-minded individuals, especially women. I think the article is right, she's taking a situation that isn't gendered and making it in order to rile up support and turn people away from Bernie by insinuation. If anything, its more of an issue of tone policing (shouting or speaking emphatically doesn't dismiss the validity of an argument in other words~). I really don't see a reason to think this is sexist at all :duck:

Anyway, the ad is pandering yeah, and im not sure why the bible verse is there; En Sabah Nur's argument about black people being stereotypically Christian or generally religious is possible, but paints the Bernie campaign in a pretty terrible light to play to something as low as usually offensive stereotypes :rip: I'd like to think otherwise :emma: It's also true that Bernie isnt doing that hot with black people, though im not sure I really get why; hes not said anything as problematic as what Hillary said to the people of the Black Lives Matter movement, let alone Bill :laughga:

At the end of the day. I prefer Bernie, but I won't be too upset if Hillary wins. The only people on either side that upset me are the people who blindly follow either without noting their flaws and the people that somehow think that voting for Trump or Cruz or not voting at all is the best way to react if their fave doesn't get the nomination :air:

It wasn't about the issue (even though I disagree about the voting history). It was about silencing someone in such a manner like this.

The women's issue I was referring to was freedom of expression.

You wouldn't hear Hillary telling Sanders to be quiet in the same manner.

That he thinks he has the right to has sexist undertones.

But I agree with most of your post.

By the way, the post you were referring to is clearly biased lol

Do you know what ad I'm talking about? Clinton's ad was "7 things she has in common with your abuela." It isn't a matter of different language that ad was outright ignorance to the plight of hispanics and how they differ from wealthy white women like her. That isn't something that can be brushed off. I mean, this isn't great either, but I don't see it as nearly as bad.

Show me Martin Luther King in that ad used without his permission.

If you consider that ignorant that ad, this Bernie ad should have me you very upset.

He is not quoting Beyoncé songs to appeal to the black communities, he is backing up all of his talk about racism by showing them that he has been fighting by their side for decades. So no, I don't think this ad is problematic at all.

When did I say I supported Sanders? I'll support any democratic candidate, but I'm still going to be critical of both because it's healthier for their candidacy rather than blindly throwing my support behind a candidate. Also, sexism doesn't work like that. You can't just flip the genders and have it work out equally because women have historically been an oppressed minority. That's like arguing that there is a "war on Catholicism" like every GOP candidate spouts, or that there's racism towards whites. The equation is isn't balanced so you can't argue from the basis that it is. In this case, she was victimizing herself as a woman and oppressed minority so, no, swapping genders is not comparable in this situation. Also, you don't have to explicitly accuse someone of somethimg for it to be done. That's how shade works. You don't actually call them out, but heavily allude. It's implied and it isn't like this article was the only one to point it out. Clinton is very good at giving speeches, and this is one case where she could avoid firing direct shots and potentially give him free press and an opportunity to hit back at her. At this point in the campaign she didn't mention his name ever so it wasn't like she was going to start then because it was safer than giving him press time or bringing more controversy to herself as the Benghazi trial was happening soon.

Also, this mention she made was a few days after the debate where she interrupted Sanders and he told her that he was talking and it was his turn to. She then jumped on that and spun it as sexist by speaking about it at a women's rally. The context matters a lot. She was running a strong feminist angle at that point and this was a product of that. So, yes, she did accuse him of sexism. Explicitly? No, but a large rock isn't the only way to kill someone, there are subtler methods.

He can pander all he wants and personally deliver those ads to every black person's house, the fact is he will still get clobbered among minorities, so he and his quasi-Trump supporters can stay mad.

Civil rights have already been established. African Americans face different challenges today, ones that Sanders has failed to address.

This photo doesn't show anything relevant, and is arguably pandering if one uses the same logic enforced on Hillary every other day.

"Support me. I supported your civil rights a long time ago".

Except Bernie Sanders has a very detailed platform on mass incarceration, criminal justice reform/police brutality and systemic biases (as well as addressing income inequality, which disproportionately effects people of color in lower income communities). https://berniesanders.com/issues/racial-justice/

As opposed to Hillary, who helped contribute to mass incarceration, the destruction of our old welfare system and is the beneficiary of reactionary Democratic politics that sought to find covertly racist middle ground between the racist Republicans and the, at the time, floundering Democrats. And, if we're talking past history, someone who also supported segregationist Barry Goldwater in 1964.
