Is This Bernie Sanders Campaign Ad Problematic?

Bernie Sanders claims to have all of this Civil Rights experience, and it's just more Bernie Sanders B.S. I will give him credit for being another number in a march or rally, but as far as actual change he made? Very little. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, worked under Civil Rights Icon Marian Wright Edelman and actually went UNDERCOVER to southern schools pretending to be a mother that was wanting to enroll her child in a school, attempting to expose white schools that were resisting integration of black students into public schools. Hillary actually worked for progress, while Bernie diagnosed the already known problems. Just as is happening in this election. Bernie Sanders is tapping the emotion and diagnosing the problems that the American people are feeling. Meanwhile, Hillary is the one who is putting forth actual plans that will fix the problems and bring about actual, realistic change.

No, but there is systemic racism that she can't relate to. Being a woman and a grandmother doesn't qualify. That's like saying that black men go through the same struggles as black women because they're black. No, they don't. It's a unique experience that needs to be recognized if you're going to do something about it. Not to mention that the ad itself is an incredible example of pandering. She could have just as easily said, "7 ways HRC's like your grandmother." and listed the same things. There are definitely things that all grandmother's have in common, but it's a little poor taste and condescending to say, "this is how I'm like your abuela!" when, judging from the reactions to the ad, she clearly is not that much like them and could have very little conception of how it is being an abuela.

I see this as different from the Sanders ad where I don't think he's saying that he has things in common with the black community itself so much as he is identifying that he has stood by them and the well-revered leaders of the community. How effective he is with this ad is another question all together, but I see the intent behind it vs. the Clinton ad. They aren't doing the same thing. Neither are all that great at the end of the day, but I do think they are functioning differently.

Could you say why she isn't referencing this more then? i'm genuinely curious because this would be something worth bringing up on a larger platform like a debate. I mean, yeah she has the black vote already, but it would put her in good standing all around when a lot of Sanders supporters find her to be unscrupulous and untrustworthy.

In regards to Sanders, I don't think it diminishes what he did just by being there. Yes, he didn't lead anything or make change, but he supported the movement. I think if he was campaigning around saying he made all of these changes and strides it would be a bigger issue, but he really does just say he was there and supported (from what I've seen. let me know if there was someplace that says otherwise).

The organization Marian Wright Edelmon founded was the Childrens' Defense Fund. Hillary talks about working for the organization, but doesn't go into the specifics of what she did (going undercover to expose white schools for their resistance to integration). There's only so much time during the debate for answers, usually 90 seconds, so she tries to focus on her plans for the future of America after briefly mentioning her time with the Organization. Though, during his speeches on the campaign trail, Bill Clinton likes to toot her horn and talk about her experiences in detail. You can tell he really believes in her and knows that she'd be a great President.

Hmmm...I mean, I get your point. I think they should really find a way for her to speak about it, though. Let's be honest, she gets more media coverage than Bill does when it comes to speaking (being the nominee and all). She's made tons of speeches and I really think this would be something good for her herself to mention to combat a lot of the Sanders campaign attacks.
