It's natural for Bernie supporters to bring in examples about Hillary as a defense for Bernie.

Offense makes a good misdirecting defense I suppose.

Although in Morphine Prince's defense, he was talking to me specifically.

Yes, I was responding to your post about ads in general.

Not trying to derail the thread.

Well I don't think we need to reduce what his values might be even if it's obvious pandering.

I'm not trying to spin it into something it's not. People saying it's problematic are. It's not problematic in any way imo. But it could be if you just wanna be against everything a candidate says. As is the case with both Hillary and Bernie supporters who like to tear apart literally everything the other says :rip:

Well it might be problematic when his images have the unfortunate implication that he's been through the same struggle.

Personally I don't care, but many people can view it that way.

I don't think it is problematic at all.

Although I think the biblical passage was unnecessary. I know MLK used it but religion (and specially the bible) shouldn't be part of his campaign considering how inclusive and liberal his campaign has been.

No because he's actually done things for the civil rights movement like Obama and King had, unlike his running mate.

Are you seriously blaming him for using this? This is a campaign.

Maybe if I use some Hillary ads you will see:

tumblr_no7klkTjLS1s9rx9zo1_540.png

Rainbow "Hillary" H. Pandering to gays? Or showing she supports LGBT people? You decide. Did she fight for LGBT rights since a long time ago? (I actually don't know), I only know she didn't support same sex marriage a few decades back.

Pandering to Hispanics? Hispanics on social media ridiculed this last year.

The slogan #ImWithHer

Pandering to women? Or just a great slogan? You're with HER, not him. Clearly showcasing she's a woman, the only woman, and will be the FIRST woman to be president.

It's a campaign. The ads are designed to get votes and bring people in to become interested in a candidate.

They are both Pandering. You can't say one is and the other isn't. Then he used a Bible verse. It's clearly pandering.

I don't think the campaign is equating Bernie to MLK. It's just showing a contribution that Bernie made. Besides I can't take anyone who uses the word "problematic" seriously anymore.

Civil rights have already been established. African Americans face different challenges today, ones that Sanders has failed to address.

This photo doesn't show anything relevant, and is arguably pandering if one uses the same logic enforced on Hillary every other day.

"Support me. I supported your civil rights a long time ago".

Doesn't address the issues African Americans face today...? Dude seriously? Please, when HilLiary allows her BLM protestor to have a voice and he cuts off a protestor, kicks them out, and turns to his white friends who paid over a couple thousand to watch him speak and says "Now back to the issues," you can then make that claim. That's just ridiculous and absurd.

Go back and read I've said they both are and there's nothing wrong with it as this is a campaign.

UNLESS it's so blatantly obvious the candidate really doesn't care about a certain issue and is just looking for political gain.

Which is not the case.

Uh considering Bernie as been a life long supporter of the civil rights movement and Clinton just got behind gay marriage like last week, I'm pretty sure one is pandering and one isn't....

Well Hillary can't make an ad like this can she? Mr. Barry Goldwater & being a Republican are not nice things + her first job as a lawyer was defending a child rapist that allegedly she already knew was guilty :laughga:

Bernie was against gay marriage when he was mayor of Vermont. He only wanted a civil union so not to fight the power. He also was not going to do anything for gay work rights. He is NOT a lifetime supporter of gay rights. Did he change is mind before Hilary? Yes, but he still changed his mind.

And STILL not as often as HilLiary.

Please don't reduce LGBT rights to marriage equality :rip: It's insulting, especially to those from countries who couldn't care less about marriage equality when they're being arrested on the streets for who they are. The same countries that Clinton has denounced and engaged in active diplomacy in response such as the sanctions against Uganda when their anti-gay law was established.

Also Sanders was against it too, so don't try to whitewash history. The only reason he voted against many referendums was because he wanted the matter left to the states (due to his socialist leanings) as opposed to empathy towards the cause.

Also the civil rights movement isn't what's being discussed here. African Americans face issues different than civil rights which have already been granted. Nowadays it's mostly remnants of intolerance and racism which demand a different set of goals, ones that Sanders has consistently failed to address. Bringing up his actions for civil rights movement, as if he had any impact in comparison really, is misdirection.

Case in point: Pandering.

Hillary using a rainbow slogan and a hashtag is so irrelevant in comparison, especially when she really did advocate for gay and women rights throughout all of her career, even today, with the exception of the occasional minor outlier like her understandably passive stance on marriage equality as a person from an older generation.
