RadioIsOurs 13,876
Just now, Bette Davis said: But did this law really change anything for people who would want to sneak into the women's bathroom with sexual intentions? What was stopping some pervert from dressing up as a women and sneaking into the women's restroom to spy on, assault, rape women 50 years ago? Would this law prevent them from doing it tomorrow? No, it wouldn't. I guess maybe they think that they could pass of as transgender by doing a sh1t job at drag? Like perhaps if they got exposed they can give the excuses that they are trans and therefore look like men?

No, it wouldn't. This law is about protecting the rights and safety of trans people. If I were a transwoman, I would feel so unsafe going into the men's restroom in North Carolina where homophobia and transphobia are clearly strong and socially acceptable. It's not going to be long before we hear of cases of violence and verbal abuse towards transpeople using restrooms in NC. Perhaps I am misreading your response, but could you please explain how this law is protective of trans* individuals? It was designed deliberately to force them to use the restroom that corresponds to their biological sex. What I meant was: "Opposition to this law is about protecting the rights and safety of trans people." Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
mmm 879
6 hours ago, Harry said: But surely this law would protect trans people who just want to use the correct bathroom for what they identify with? If a man is going to be gross and perverted like that and enter the woman's bathroom under the pretence of being trans, sadly I think he would do it, law or not. But if he gets caught out doing something terrible, he'd get in trouble regardless of the law. Identifying as a woman wouldn't protect him from getting prosecuted for whatever nasty stuff he decided to do in there. But if a trans woman is minding her own business in the ladies room, she could be charged under this law... just for using the bathroom. Her other option is to go into the male bathroom, where she'd likely be subject to all kinds of discrimination and perhaps even violence. It just doesn't make sense at all. Thats like saying if I identify as a black person, I should be able to enter black only groups because I identify as one.. if a trans woman want to enter the womens bathroom, they should look like a woman and nobody will even notice and thats what all trans women do today. Also, trans people are 0% of the population.

You cannot logically identify as being a different race. That comparison makes no sense in this discussion. So you propose that at every bathroom someone should be there to approve if you look womanly enough to enter? What about women who have more masculine features, or vice versa? Obviously if you straight up look and dress like a typical man and you just walk in a woman's bathroom then it's pretty sketchy, but that's not what people want at all. I doubt that any trans people would try/expect to pass without having taken the necessary steps to change their appearance accordingly. You'd rather transgender women go into the men's bathroom regardless of their appearance and risk getting attacked? Also don't see what that statistic has to do with anything. Luiz 4,253
this law is just the fight against a new way of thinking that could harm women. trans people were never really recognized by society as a legitimate thing and in the past if a man wanted to dress up as a woman and go peep on women in the bathroom he could do so with a disguise but he would know that if he was caught that there would be no defense for his actions. there being no defense for him would make what he is doing riskier. now that trans people are gaining legitimacy and acceptance in some places, a peeping tom of today might see this shift in society as an opportunity. the creeper that used to be afraid of the consequences of being caught in the past might be more willing to take the chance and put on a disguise and peep in the womens bathroom if they know that when they get caught they can just say they are trans and possibly get away with it.(i doubt they'd get away with it) our new view of trans people could embolden the peeping creepo to feel more comfortable with taking the risk if they know they have a defense for themselves in their back pocket. this law is to keep things the way they are and make the clear distinction between which bathrooms are to be used, and by who with no exceptions in the interest of safety and comfort for the women using the bathrooms. idk which to side with here because i understand where both sides are coming from. do we side with being understanding of the fear the women are feeling of the new shift in society or do we side with the trans people and be considerate of how this law makes them feel. trans people are more marginalized in society than women so its obvious most of GGD will side with them but i'm not sure tbh. let the states decide i guess? I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

That's exactly what this law wants people to think. Its a fear tactic that seeks to keep trans* individuals on the margins of society. McCrory and Co. wants their followers to believe that all trans* people are sexual predators who are dressing in drag, hiding in a bathroom stall, and jumping out to rape the women and children. When in reality, this has literally never happened in North Carolina. If a man or a woman wants to sexually assault another human, no law is going to stop them. Rolodex of Hate 1,761
There have been NO recorded cases of men deliberately dressing as women and going into women's bathrooms just to somehow watch women urinate. (Idek how they'd do that anyway in cubicles, but if they did, they'd obviously be reported). Similarly, Cruz seems to be making the assumption that trans women are in fact men who want to look at girls. This is ridiculous because a) Most cisgender men wouldn't want to dress up as a woman just to glimpse at others urinating (mostly because no one actually goes to that effort and they'd obviously be caught) and b) Not all men are straight and necessarily interested in girls. Get real - why is he unbothered about lesbians using female toilets? Following his messed up logic, he probably should be. We have no legal choice but to stan

The conservatories are using trans* people as a scapegoat. so someone has never peeped on a bathroom in NC? really? so men arent as creepy as we believe? i think they can be. if a guy before 2015 wanted to peep on a bathroom he didnt have any back up defense for his actions. but now with this new way of thinking towards trans individuals he could possibly get the idea that he wants to dress up as a woman, say he's trans and gain access to a woman's bathroom. the idea that a biological man could dress as a woman and use the womans restroom and others know that that individual is a biological man in the woman's restroom and everyone is ok with it, is a rather new concept that is gaining support around the country NC is trying to stop it from becoming the norm in their state because they see this new way of thinking as potentially harmful to women. and if you've never heard of a dude dressing up in a disguise to go peep the girls bathroom well i'd need some kind of proof i mean would that even be a big enough news story to report on if it did happen? a peeping tom is like back of the newspaper type of crime news we never hear national news stories about peeping toms(unless a celeb is involved) but i'm sure they happen alot. just that now instead of poking a hole through the wall they might get bold enough to claim their trans and put on a dress for easier access. i wont trivialize the fears a woman has of creeper men taking advantage of a change in society. but this will probably be like when they wanted to ban gays from bathrooms(i'm sure they wanted to). they can be scared or offended all they want but this is the way our society has chosen to go so they will have to just end up dealing with it eventually oh yeah and its different with lesbians in the bathroom with women because the physical strength aspect obviously I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. Thing is, we don't limit the some peoples' rights because some sickos would take advantage of them I mean, look at marriage. "Traditional marriage" is "defended" by people who say it's a union that's about love and family, a family that can only be naturally started by a man and woman. Yet, thousands commit marriage fraud in order to gain citizenship, tax benefits, insurance, etc, but there was never a bill proposed that abolished marriage. If people are concerned about their kids, then accompany them to the bathroom or don't let them use public restrooms...honestly, if they think a little sign on a door will stop someone who's dumb enough to pose as a trans* woman, go into a public bathroom, and sexually assault a little girl, they're wrong. Also, what about little boys? To my knowledge, there's been no reports of little boys getting assaulted or abducted from a public restroom by a male sexual predator. It's nothing but a transphobic scare tactic. "Think about the children" has been used as an excuse to "justify" segregation and discrimination since the dawn of time. If you're worried about bathroom misconduct, sign a bill into law that bans senators from public restrooms Whimsical bitch

I dot even know the right terms but if you are born 100% a man but identify as a woman, I dont have a problem with that and you should have the right to do that but when you start asking for laws to enter womens privet bathrooms I am against that specially when there is no scientific proof of being transgender and only 0% of people are trangendered. I dont want transgender women to be at risk of being attacked, they can enter womens bathrooms and nobody will notice and they can also ask for their own bathrooms.
