If ARTPOP was released in 2011 instead of Born This Way

Oh and regarding the singles, after coming out of TFMonster and Alejandro as the last single, I'd have her comeback with... probably G.U.Y. It's catchy, flows well with TF and TFM, is a bit more upbeat than Alejandro was. Then maybe to show her diversity I'd have her release MANiCURE, Venus, Applause, and end with Gypsy.

And people would be like "whooooa Gaga got so experimental and weird" :laughga:  without knowing the half of it! No meat dress, no Born This Way message, no autobiographical music videos, less inspiring quotes, no don't ask don't tell, not so many awards, no Madonna controversy, no broken hip!...

It's really weird imagining this big blank space in her career where BTW sits! I feel like it was such a defining era for her music and career and messages and success   she'd be nothing like who is, and wouldn't be known in the ways she's now known with that gap.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

ARTPOP wouldn't have made sense right after The Fame Monster. Gaga was clearly already going down a dark, gothic path with tracks like Monster, So Happy I Could Die, Dance in the Dark, Bad Romance and Teeth. If Born This Way looked and sounded like ARTPOP it would've been interesting if not radical.

That's an interesting possibility. But it cannot be judged completely objectively.

1. In terms of music, ARTPOP released in 2011 makes much more sense. Just compare it to Femme Fatale and Talk That Talk which had some of the biggest and most successful singles. ARTPOP's sound would have been "timely" and none of you would complain it's dated.

2. ARTPOP in 2011 would have experienced the effect of TFM, not BTW. It's sales would have been several times bigger. It's impact? I think she wouldn't get that much of a backlash. But the negative trend  would have started anyway. She would have been seen as milking the cow. I mean ARTPOP to TF/TFM is just like PRISM is to TD. So I can totally see her have some success but ultimately get boring. All in all, it'd be the overratedrather than the underrated album in her discography.

3. BTW in 2013 would fare better commercially than ARTPOP in 2013 cause it's a stronger album because of its message. It would have established a positive trend for her, cause it demonstrates  a big growth as an artist. ARTPOP in 2013, on the other hand, was on purpose exactly the opposite of BTW. Add to that the BTW backlash projected on the weaker AP of 2013 and we know how it went.

4. Neither ARTPOP in 2011 nor BTW in 2013 makes sense. AP of 2013 is largely the result of the pressure of the previous 2 album cycles/eras. BTW in 2011 served as a catalyst for a big social change. But changes in society happen gradually with or without someone's contribution. Gaga and BTW definitely sped up the process, but there's no guarantee someone/something else would not have taken her place. So BTW with its message in 2013 would seem like a follower rather than the trend-setter and forward-thinker it is (in terms of resonance with the public, not musically at all).

Okay this is what comes to mind. I think we don't need to worry about it, cause the benefits of Gaga's fall during ARTPOP already outweigh the costs of the negativity. We are already 3 years in, 2 eras later, and you can see the long-term image around it is getting consolidated - it will be remembered as a "blip" in her career by the GP, for some fans as a disappointment, and for other fans as an underrated jewel, that had a lot going on under the faux mask of failure everyone rushed to put on.

That would have been sad considering how basic and edge less ARTPOP is, BTW is a lush sprawling ambitious sonic masterpiece.

No born this way was and is my fave Gaga album but I have a strange feeling LG5 is gonna be like ARTPOP but bigger. I just don't feel like LG5 will be HUGE but big enough to break charts and Google and YouTube again

Welcome to GagaDaily, it looks like things just got messgendary.
