I expect someone will come up with a defense and tell me I'm wrong, or a SJW, but it doesn't matter because you all said the same thing:

Motoko Kusanagi's eyes are too big, she doesn't have black or brown hair, she's not "Japanese" enough for me. A white woman can play her.

Now I could get into why this statement is wrong and the fact ya'll said it without batting an eye is extremely concerning, but let me not.

What I'm seeing in this thread is that it's ok to take a Japanese story, made by Japanese people for a Japanese market and anime fans who understand and respect Japanese culture, take out the strong Japanese female lead, and make her white because "Star Power".

The story being told is no longer Japanese. It only serves to further deny minority actors a role that could have represented them and given them opportunities, but will now only add fuel to the brewing dissatisfaction minority races are feeling. Whitewashing is a thing. They did it to Stonewall, they're doing it now.

Now I'm not going to discuss this with ya'll. There's no point.
You don't think the character look "Asian enough", a statement which is wrong in itself (and if you can't tell why, I can't help you), but you also don't see why taking a Japanese woman, and making her white is wrong.

I'm not attacking any of you, I'm not even mad, I'm just really dissapointed.

Just tell me where I have been "laughing" my ass off about it. Because that's what he is pointing out. I just cared to say that she didn't look Asian. Am I making fun of it right now? I'm just telling what I see from perspective.

Well it does lol? I've never been exposed to anime and getting a big American actress to play that role opens me up to the idea of exploring the genre and maybe I'll see it and want to culture myself more. This is a good thing.

I was excited to this because I really enjoyed the directors first film... but noooooooo I don't think that is cool.   Seems like a bad decision and will only get more backlash the closer it gets tobeing released.

Lance is giving me Rachel Dolezal teas because one minute he calls Azealia Banks a stereotype to black woman and the next minute he calls out people for not understanding african culture or asian culture struggles. It does confuse me because he's black so I'm also getting an uncle tom type of vibe going on.

Its like if @Lady Palutena decided to be dismissive all the time.  I have nothing against using a character, hell, I went through a time where I had Phoenix Wright as my username and posted gifs of him. Its just that there's a time and a thread for it.
