The two performed similarly in many aspects. US Hot 100 Peaks Applause : #4 (14 Weeks Top Ten) Alejandro : #5 (7 Weeks Top Ten) US Sales : Applause : 2.580M (3X Plat) Alejandro : 2.540M (2X Plat) UK Performances Applause : #5, 236K Alejandro : #7, 436K Worldwide, Alejandro did a little bit better, peaking at #1 on 11 official WW charts and being certified total WW for 3.998M sales. Applause peaked at #1 on 5 WW official charts and sold around 3.371M copies WW. Streaming wise, Applause fared much better than Alejandro, but at the same time Applause was released at the beginning of Spotify's true dominance. Spotify WW Numbers Applause : 115,452,493 Alejandro : 63, 218, 202 On Youtube, Applause's more simple video managed to garner almost as many views as Alejando's controversial short film, though this can be argued as Applause's release date in a more Youtube friendly time. But that's just me. You are correct. There is far more people I know that remember Alejandro as a Gaga's song but don't remember Applause at all. I pray for them every night though. LadOfAbyss 597 Posted April 12, 2016 Share Posted April 12, 2016 I have to say Applause because it was Gaga's return to a new era that managed to do quick well and really set the tone for ARTPOP whereas Alejandro was just controversial like most of what Gaga was at the time. Also Applause is a shorter video filled with great imagery that just seemed to stay in my mind longer. Alejandro video duration was dragged for to long making the video seem more repetitive. Alejandro will stand the test of time as its timeless Applause is too gimmicky (I love it but its true) If All You Ever Do Is Look Down On People, You Won't Be Able To Recognize Your Own Weaknesses.
