Britney got them haters pressed, at least she's having her money at the end of the day. Jealous?

I believe The Monkees were the first act ever to be called manufactured, way back in 1966. They're sometimes called 'the first ever manufactured boyband.' But the difference is, in days gone by, nobody cared if a singer didn't write or were controlled by others. It was just how the industry worked back then. Now we care. And there were acts who were criticised for being puppets just before Britney came along. I think the 90's in general spawned the use of the word "pop puppet," it wasn't just Britney.

But regardless as to how much Britney is in control, the sad fact is that she did have a good voice, once, before she became famous. You can find them on YouTube, although compilation videos of all the clips aren't there now. Just type "Britney singing as a child" and you'll find some. Singing in church, at school, on tv, the Mickey Mouse Club. She sang country, jazz, soul, gospel music, that kind of thing. From these early recordings, you can tell that she could sing and that her voice was not suited for pop. But back then, it would have seemed a terrible waste to get a young, pretty, blonde, white girl to make an album that wasn't pop when she could be selling millions by being generic. So, that's what happened.

But not just that, Britney is not as manufactured as some. She can play piano. She has written songs on her albums (In The Zone is the best example and she co-wrote everything on Britney Jean, even the bonus tracks, although the amount of involvement she had is sketchy, all things considered). Plenty of acts before her never wrote a single song their entire careers. And some of those names would shock you.
