President Obama said Hillary Clinton exhibited "carelessness" in handling emails, but defended his former secretary of State and "guaranteed" that politics will not influence an ongoing investigation of her, in an appearance on Fox News Sunday.

"I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department, or the FBI — not just in this case, but in any case," Obama said in the pre-taped interview that broadcast Sunday.

"What I’ve also said is that — and she has acknowledged — that there’s a carelessness, in terms of managing emails, that she has owned, and she recognizes," Obama told Fox News.

..

In his Fox News Sunday interview, his first on the program as president, Obama also suggested that over-classification may be at play, and that some of the emails traced to Clinton should not have had high classification.

While there is "top-secret" information that should not be shared, Obama said there is also material "being presented to the president or the secretary of State, that you might not want on the transom, or going out over the wire, but is basically stuff that you could get in open-source."

Obama also said, "I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security."

During the interview taped during his recent visit to Chicago, Obama also said:

• Proposals by Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz will undermine national security.

Saying the nation should stand by its laws and values in the fight against the Islamic State, Obama criticized Cruz's proposal to "carpet bomb" Islamic State positions and Trump's plan to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States until the terrorism problem is addressed.

"We have to make sure that what we do doesn’t end up being counterproductive," Obama said, adding: "Our approach has to be smart."

• His "number one job is to protect the American people," and his "number one priority" is to defeat the Islamic State.

Disputing claims by Trump, Cruz and other Republicans that he is not taking the terrorist threat seriously enough, Obama said that "there isn’t a president who’s taken more terrorists off the field than me, over the last seven-and-a-half years."

If Clinton didn't send classified information over her email server... wtf was she doing for four years? Like shouldn't our SoS be getting work done from their email??

He didn't say that. In fact he explicitly said that there was top secret information that should not be openly shared.

However he also said that it's being assumed that all the e-mails were highly classified, when they weren't. Some were probably nudes to Bill, for example.

He also said that a lot of the e-mails contained sensitive information that is already publicly available if you are so inclined, but is preferred to remain low key.

People forget that this was a private e-mail server, and not all business was conducted through it.

So basically it was him coming in defense of her by claiming that the issue wasn't as alarming as many are led to believe, while understandably saying that there was a degree of carelessness that everyone can agree on.

which was not protected and was half wiped before it was handed over to federal investigators. If this was a republican running for president that did this you would freak the f*ck out and you know it.

Check your bias.

Why are you assuming I would freak out?

You would claim that they endangered national security and were suspicious in clearing half of their damn server before it was seized by investigators.

Why would I do that?

They've endangered national security through means that are far more dangerous than misplaced e-mails.

Let me remind you that I don't support Republicans because of their backwards regressive policies, not their actions.

This is something you fail to understand about me.

Because having a game plan for paying off a debt that's about to surpass the size of our GDP is "regressive".

You only talk about one topic. Sure, why not. Even my brother believes in their economic plans. They're not unviable.

I'm talking about their policies in general, where most of their stances are about undoing progress.

Anyway this isn't the place to discuss this.

Well, be the change you want to see in the world I guess. If I have to be a liberal republican to start changing the party and get slack for it on GagaDaily, then se be it. (Not to say I'm a registered Republican)

Where am I giving you slack for it?

I dislike your stance, but I know you have your reasons. They just clash with mine. I don't make it a point to attack your positions. I just defend my positions when yours come in friction with mine on the forums. Do you see what I'm saying?

I'm referring to less tolerant members. I see where you're coming from and look forward to fighting you in the next thread ;)

I wouldn't call it fighting. It's more like debating.

You realize the GOP is the party of Abe Lincoln? Psh.
