It is easily digestible by the general public. It's good background music. It's catchy and the meanings are obvious and simple. It's catchy enough and basic enough that a lot of people will give it a listen or just have it on. And it's juuuust deep enough that people don't find it too basic. It appeals to most demographics including young and old, male and female, straight and gay, etc. Gaga's music is kind of the opposite. It's more experimental and the meanings are layered. It can be too deep for some people and go over their heads and they miss what it's really about. Her music always stands out from current pop instead of blending in with it, which a lot of people find too jarring, etc. In which case absolutely no one should be bothered by the views. We all know views don't signify success or rather, artistic, creative and intellectual merit. We should be glad. I know she wouldn't, but I would hate if Gaga ever took down the intelligence and quality of what she does for something as superficial as views. We all know in the end that Gaga will have the best and most respected legacy. She is an artist. Katy Perry is a singer and yes, there is a difference. There are many artists like Gaga, though no where nearly as good, who continue to experiment and grapple with art, but who are unknown and unappreciated. This woman did what she said she would do in 2009 and that was taking fine art and making it commercial. That is more impressive than mass-aiming regurgitated and childish bubblegum-pop for more and more money. In terms of PASSION, Gaga beats Katy 100%, and it is that which will be appreciated more when it's too late. People can bask smugly in this plagarist's special views now, and let their children find out that society never learns from history. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light. AIex 3,102
Because Katy has a bigger audience generally + her content is more happy and... well i don't wanna say basic. That sounds rude. But its something along the lines of that, so its processed easily and doesnt have lyrics like "I want your whiskey mouth all over my blond south"

The music is sh!t, and that's just a plain fact. She is a shameless corporate puppet sell out with mediocre talent and colourfully childish, sexually charged videos. Sex sells. She knows it. Her management knows it. It gets her views so she and her team can fool the public (who are dumber as a result from listening to the trash) that she's this giant sucess and genius. People with taste, an eye and ear for true art and a respect for the poetic and intellectual nature of fine work can tell the difference. These people are not fooled easily and don't like their own intelligence being insulted. Just because there aren't as many (or maybe there are and they refuse to even attempt to relate this to a bunch of immature and intellectually deficient teenagers) does not mean that Katy Perry is a god damn prodigy. I can't stand this argument nor fathom the intention for the question behind it. When Tony Bennett, a living legend and an art graduate, calls you the "Picasso of music" there isn't much left to be said. Sorry to the hypersensitive if I sound like a snob but I'm sick of hearing this overrated, over-played trash on every radio and every store I walk into. It is the equivelant to feeding your brain Big Macs all day long. It's done disguising itself as being 'cute' and 'joyful' to the rest of us who crave a little heart and soul now and then. Especially when it is oh-so-cleverly all designed to at the end of the day, only make money. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.
