It's interesting to see how housing costs vary in different parts of the world.  $500k in San Diego can get you either an older home (that probably isn't renovated) or a newly built one before the upgrades.  

Meanwhile, 500 grand can get you a mansion in Texas

in some parts of Canada that will get u a big house, but in Toronto or Vancouver you get an old shoe box
