Bruce Springsteen cancels North Carolina concert to protest HB2

The backlash against North Carolina’s law banning anti-discrimination ordinances kept going unabated Friday, as Bruce Springsteen announced that he was canceling a weekend show in the state in solidarity with those protesting the bill.

Springsteen and the E Street Band were scheduled to perform at the Greensboro Coliseum on Sunday night as part of their current tour, which continues in the United States this month and heads to Europe in May.

On Friday afternoon, Springsteen released a statement saying that he could no longer play the show.

“Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them,” Springsteen said in the message posted on his website. “It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.”

Its not fair that a trans* individual can't use a restroom without fearing for their life   This was the right move and I hope other music acts follow suit

I'm all for sticking it to our dumb ass law makers. I'm very upset over the law, but the concert goers shouldn't be punished for something they cannot control.

The fans should direct their anger at the state legislators, not at Springsteen. I think it is sad they have to miss the show, but the statement he's making by postponing the show will speak volumes for human rights. In the end, I think that's more important.

 whatever you say, dear. It's not as if the governor is going to the show. He's not punishing them, he's punishing the fans.

But cancelling it isn't going to actually do anything except punish people have no responsibility for the law. I understand the sentiment and I'm glad he's taking a stand, but he's taking a stand against people who have no choice in the matter.
