Eight Years of Lady Gaga

I think Australian media finally loves Gaga again! Check out this photo essay by Australian Cosmopolitan. We were the second country (after Canada) where Just Dance hit number one. So we like to think of ourselves as always on the hunt for new trends. But at the same time we were also the first to turn our backs on Gaga during her Born This Way era. I think Australia still has a long way to go in equal rights. We still don't have gay marriage, even though New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, so many US states etc already have it. We're literally stuck in no mans land. Most of the older gays here don't want gay marriage. Not for themselves. Not for others. But change is inevitable. Gay marriage is almost 95% supported by those under 35. Back to the Cosmo article. Seeing these old photos makes me so nostalgic. And so sad knowing that even the new era for LG5, which hasn't even begun yet, will soon one day become the past. It makes me want to appreciate Gaga, and all people I know and the music I love for that matter, a lot better that I do now. I guess I just take so many things for granted. Too busy worrying about the paths in front of me instead of focusing on the one behind me.

My question to you is this: What do you think is the single biggest achievement Gaga has made since her pop career began eight years ago, and why is it important to you? It can be as personal or as impersonal as you like. Is it in fashion? In pop music? Politics? Art? Commerce? Or society?

For me, it is her Born This Way album. It spoke to people who didn't want to listen. It almost killed her career. But like the saying goes, whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. I think the people who initially hated Born This Way are finally starting to let go of what made them boycott it. I don't think anyone truly hated BTW, I just think they chose to distance themselves from Gaga after her message in the lead song. But even those people are now finally at peace with Gaga, I think. Even the most closeted, self-hating far right type of powerful person has forgiven themselves. And they finally admire Gaga for her courage and bravery.

EDIT: the last photo had a caption that made me shed a tear. Let me quote it: "But we know the old Gaga will always come back for a visit every now and then - we just need to wait patiently for those moments"

She was always such an unequivocal promoter of equal rights from the very beginning. All the other pop stars spoke so ambivalently, like they were walking on eggshells or something. I love how Gaga gave zero f*cks and just said what she believed she knew in her heart of hearts.

Oh yeah Gaga was unavoidable AND untouchable in those years. And personally speaking the best years of my life tbh.

Her biggest achievement is helping so many people in several ways, and even saving lives.  Her means to accomplishing that achievement is promoting kindness, positivity, strength, bravery, and other good values by her words and by living those values herself and leading by her own good example.

I live outside the space time continuum.
