People spend way too much time on their computers and phones, looking for something that isn't there. If they got out in the world and actually tried to do something to change their communities, they wouldn't have time to focus on silly things like this that don't matter in the big picture.

However, also consider the fact that many black people have grown up seeing images of slavery where black children literally were used as "furniture" - images of white people actually sitting on them, propping their feet on them like stools, and having them hold their supplies like side tables. 
Surely this image brings those images to mind, especially considering how the facial expression on the young black girl in the Gap ad looks so somber....

I think posts like this are part of the problem. In the name of equality you are creating a false equvilancy between a bad idea and those who criticizes the bad idea.

We are talking about a racially diverse advertisement for a liberal lesbian's children's clothing line. Two of the models are sisters, one is leaning against the other. That is it.

If a social justice warrior prioritizes reaffirming their status as a victim by pointing out examples of non-existent racism in a GAP advertisement over criticizing GAP's real problem of using of child labor, then you don't for a second have to pretend their is any validity to their rage.

It might just be the moderator in you, but not every kid deserves a trophy, some kids are idiots.

I totally agree about the ideas expressed regarding the ad- I'm just saying both sides needs to think about why the other would feel the way they do. So the anti-SJW crowd should think about how this ad comes off as problematic, but the SJW crowd should think about the intention behind the ad. If BOTH sides did this, both sides would be able to look at the problem better.

Given the historical treatment and marginalization of black people in American society, yes, I think this ad is insensitive and can be perceived as having racial connotations. GAP is not racist but I think they should've been a little more careful.

It's true that you should listen to both sides of any story in order to be fair, but there are situations where(even if you're a neutral on the topic) you just have to draw the line and tell the one side they're getting ridiculous. This is not a sjw vs anti-sjw thing it's common sense vs extremely irrational behavior.
