Have a watch through a few videos here and you might find something you like, it's something I've been exploring recently too :)

I looked up 'gay books' but there was less results. The only gay book I've read so far is a YA contemporary novel called "Simon vs The Homosapien Agenda" which I quite enjoyed. It's based around someone's coming out so it was kind of strange to be reminded of what that process is like as it seems so long ago for me

I don't know if you're a big fan of poetry but if you are "Howl and Other Poems" by Allen Ginsberg is a must read. One of the greatest poets in the history of American literature.

I've seen the movie just cause James Franco :gaycat: Gonna read that too

If we're talking gay poetry you need to read Richard Siken  He's quite unknown but his poems are beautiful:

(from "You Are Jeff")

"You're in a car with a beautiful boy, and he won't tell you that he loves
you, but he loves you. And you feel like you've done something terr-
ible, like robbed a liquor store, or swallowed pills, or shoveled yourself
a grave in the dirt, and you're tired. You're in a car with a beautiful boy,
and you're trying not to tell him that you love him, and you're trying to
choke down the feeling, and you're trembling, but he reaches over and
he touches you, like a prayer for which no words exist, and you feel your
heart taking root in your body, like you've discovered something you
don't even have a name for."

...

Here's another one called "Litany in which certain things are crossed out"

The book of Samuel in the Bible that talks about King David is gay as Fûçk.

Absolutely darling. What I have right now is the complete series of The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal. You can read this online. I just wanted to keep one for myself. It's very tame and fun to read. I recommend it if you just want to read something nice.

I haven't read mangas in a long time. Tho I've mostly read just the doujinshis. Some have a really deep and moving story :excited2:

Right? I was actually debating whether I should do Victorian era or the Roaring 20s. Both seem pretty cool. I have the Victorian story mapped out in my head already tho. It's going to be inspired by a lesbian movie I loved tho and I just wanted to make it longer which is another reason why I made this thread.

Thanks all for the suggestions

I'll check it out.

I haven't read that much doujinshi. I need to.

You wanna know what manga I forgot? Loveless. That has a lotta gay in it. Though, Ritsuka and Soubi are actually seen as heterosexuals using the word "love" and romantic actions for manipulation.

Though it's all really gay. However if you have a problem with like... 12-year olds in such precarious situations of danger and relationships, I suggest against it (though the style and how many of the characters act make them seem more mature).

I also forgot about Acid City. It is SO Good. Lots of gay there. But also family issues and prostitution and family AND LIKE READ IT.

Then there's Afterschool Nightmare, which is more gender bender than LGBT.

I haven't finished AfuresouNaPool yet, but it seems interesting.

I'm not sure whether or not Adekan is actually yaoi because I only have the first three volumes, but there's a lot of homoerotica and nudity, and damn the series is gorgeous.

Outside of yaoi... I have to suggest...

A Fairytale for the Demon Lord

Absolute Witch

07-Ghost

AEGIS

Accel World

Switch

Game x Rush (this may also be yaoi but I only have on volume of it)

Ageha100%

I may have a few others but I'm too lazy, lols. And I can't remember everything I've read.

Lols maybe we can collab on writing sometime!

I am currently working on a few different things. Mostly these realstic drama type things and high fantasy. I am working on other things, but the three novels I wanna have mostly finished by the end of the year are that.

Luxe Ford

Mysterious Skin is a great, great book. Also recommend his second novel In Awe.

Christopher Isherwood's Christopher and His Kind is a more biographic and 'open' version of his Farewell to Berlin (the book behind Cabaret).

A book that might not be as readily available is The Hustler by John Henry Mackay from 1926. It's about a young boy leaving his home to end up a prostitue in Berlin. It's apparently very accurately described the sexual underworld at the time. It meant a lot to me when I read it.

SKANK

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Picture of Dorian Gray. It ticks all your boxes. Gay? Check. Victorian? Check. If you are a writer looking for inspiration it's impossible to not be inspired by a wordsmith like Wilde.

Then I counter with  Huysman's A Rebours, the book that influenced Wilde to write Dorian Gray. It's also Dorian's favourite book.

Wow you know a lot. Adekan looks so pretty.

And yes I think we should. I write stories but not necessarily novels tho. I'll pm you more about it if you want when I finally get to start working on it. I'll start when I'm certain I'm ready which is pretty soon.

I love Adekan's style. So decadent.

I'm willing to write short stories and stuff. Though I never have really collabed with someone.

But it sounds interesting. I can't wait to see what you do.
