As I've said before, i think nerves are a big part of it. She's proved she's more than capable many times before. I think being comfortable is a big factor. If she's at a festival or some sort of situation where she doesn't know if everyone in the room likes her, she seizes up and nerves consume her. But if she's at a concert where everyone's a fan, she's in her element.

It's a shame she's never won a Grammy. She makes the sort of music that the academy normally loves, I don't understand it. But the academy have been making some unusual snubs these days. Ariana Grande's only been nominated for 2 and has never won despite having a voice that we haven't heard since the days of Mariah Carey and having a lot of mainstream hits. She has all the elements, so why can't she win? So, if Lana doesn't have the commercial appeal, she's got even less chance.

Have you ever seen her live? I'm expecting not because if you had, you'd probably think very differently. I saw her live back when she was still considered a bad singer (I bought that ticket with a lot of trepidation) but was blown away. Even the critics praised her. If the videos that had previously been provided for you don't convince you, try this:

Pay attention specifically to 0:32, 2:43, 3:27, 5:37 and 6:04.

Lethargic and depressing doesn't have to mean bad, though. It just doesn't appeal to you, that's all. I find depressing vocals to be very haunting and beautiful. And her music has changed between albums. Not massively, but she has had a distinctly different sound per album. Born To Die was a throwback to many retro sounds from the 40's and thereabouts that is difficult to pin down exactly what genre it is, Ultraviolence had classic rock influences and sounded very different (this is why it divided her fans and her sales dwindled) and Honeymoon has trap, jazz, Latin and middle eastern influence.

GAWDGA I love her. Sidenote it would make my day if she ever went full-on sultry grunge queen for an album
