I don't think she got into prostitution, but I'm sure she escaped home and did what she could do for a living (like sleeping in a caravan), I remember reading about this in some interviews... I mean, I don't see her selling herself in the street, but I see a dark past in her. She was also into drugs and too much alcohol.

Opulence

I thought the ride MV basically told us this, I feel like I've known it for a while

plus lyrics to Hundred Dollar Bill tells us too

Poor you.

She was a go go dancer, a stripper if you will. She had boyfriends who did hard drugs but whether she did drugs herself has never been confirmed. I believe she has though, she has a song similar to Florida Kilos where she says "the Florida keys are calling me" as in she has the urge for cocaine. It's in some unreleased mess.

Anyway, to answer your question, no, she wasn't.

Also, FMWUTTT is a sarcastic song. She's being ironic. Jesus Christ people

She's never had a "rough sexual past" and TIHTY didn't struck any nerve.

maybe she was doing it for free just for satisfaction :green:

that makes her a slut, not a prostitute.

I've always wondered because of her lyrics. Either she is playing a part (and very well) or she has had some issues in the past, which may lead to her fascination with the dark topics she sings of.

Having said that I don't think she was ever a prostitute.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

I doubt she ever went that far - I think that bit refers to just a character she plays. But she definitely had an eyebrow-raising sexual past. She's never claimed otherwise, although she's always been candid about it. She's been with a lot of older men, that much we know. And some famous ones, though we're not sure who (if you ask me, I'm more interested to know who she was talking about in Cruel World because those lyrics are very revealing). I mean, considering she went on that "I'm not a feminist" rant and has lyrics about "he hit me but it felt like a kiss," it's obvious that she has some out-dated views about sexuality and is quite traditional and submissive. Which isn't always a bad thing, but if not done in a controlled way, it can be very dangerous. I think she's so much happier with her new man now than she was before, though. I still love her music no matter what, but some of her views on things irk me and are things I don't agree with.

F***** my way up to the top, was a song dedicated to Lady Gaga. :) When i used to run one of the biggest fansites about Lana which was LanaDelReyNews, i've had the chance to talk with people close to Lana, i won't say who exactly was, but yeah unfourtunately.

How does that explain the line "mimicking me's a f***ing bore"? Gaga's never mimicked Lana. Most people think it's a reference to Lorde and I think it's pretty spot-on. She's the only one who's clearly copied her. Myself, I like to think it's about Taylor Swift but I know that's not true. But the lyrics do fit her to a tee!

FMWUTTT was more about Lorde, not Gaga. But this diss is pretty much forced. It's like Lorde tweeted something bad about Lana, and then Lana wrote a diss song about her. :/

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

who cares? most of the people saying she's so rich, why would she have to, and about her songs concepts are being v misogynistic & idiotic. she doesn't have to live as a prostitute to create a character for a song. it's her business, anyway.

I think Lana Del Rey is just a character she has made up. Maybe Lana Del Rey was poor, had alcohol problems, daddy issues, bad experiences with men etc etc etc, but not Elizabeth Grant. I believe she's just an alter ego.

Yep. I believe this is true. I LOVE her and her music, but her vibe, her persona, the look, the feel, the subject matter, seems very calculated. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just what I think.

Still... The lyrics are written, the thoughts came from somewhere.. Trauma or promiscuity is possible, as is drug use. Who knows? Not us.

She's talked about couch-hopping in New York and hinted at addiction to alcohol, crystal meth and other rough periods of her life but I don't think she ever actually prostituted herself. It's part of the character she's created, following this "dangerous lady of the night" archetype.
