Well, <<in comparison with Gaga's peak>> I said that Taylor came pretty close, which she did. I didn't derail the thread about whether or not taylor was local, the people who quoted me did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And again, I didn't say that she was bigger than Gaga because she wasn't. I said she came close

The second you brought up Taylor, the haters crawled out of their dumpsters and starting cyber thugging. Goddamnnnn her impact is sf real

I think every pop star has their time. Each year i see a different popstar "slaying" or hearing their names everywhere  on the net and on TV. i would love for gaga to do it again but idk. maybe in another generation 20 years from now

Love how you worded that! It's so true, but what makes Gaga so special like my favorite prince from the 80ds they both have the full package  and are behind their production and writing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I am not sure how many new cimers can make it big like Gaga, maybe not for a long time now.

But some of her contemporaries make it big in their own right, 1989 brought Taylor to that level and I think if she keeps doing it, she can enable herself to tour in more and more places.

The Fame + Monster disagrees

Also like 70% of 1989's sales were in the US while not even half of The Fame's sales were local.

TF/M have combined US sales of about 6M and WW 15M :neyde:

Besides, music industry has vastly declined.

2015 had like what, only 10 albums even cross 1M :neyde:

Example:

A.K.A - 34k - #6 on BB 200 - 2014
Basic Instinct 37k - #44 on BB 200 - 2010

it'll hit 8M WW soon :neyde:

it has sold around 1M in UK :neyde:

Gaga was and still is (to some extent) a global phenomenon, almost on the levels of Madonna and Michael Jackson (give her a few more years and successful eras and she'll get there.) I don't think Taylor is that big outside of North America tbh :awkney: Her music is just very... American?

Well there has been slaying pop star always and always will be. Longer term impact and all around longetivety + succes is another question, even on Gaga's case. Lg5 will tell much. But no, Gaga's rapid rise to Fame and slaying (it truly was that) has happened before and probably will again over The course of pop history. And yes, even ww.

But I repeat, Gaga's peak (so far) was truly huuuge and wont happen every year, so to speak.

Lady Gaga wasn't the first and won't be the last. Taylor Swift, Adele, and Beyonce' say Hello.

Gaga's peak was a one-time thing as far as I'm concerned. She won't be able to replicate it anymore than the Beatles were able to replicate the height of Beatlemania (not that they wanted to - they stopped touring for a reason). Neither she nor any pop star has been able to do it like she did since 2010.

I think the closest might be Taylor Swift who basically owned all of 2015 in the States, at least. Her taking her music off Spotify was a big deal, not so much the Tidal folks (who came scurrying back anyway). Her talking about Apple Music was talked about. Non-stans watched her music videos. Her songs were on constant rotation. She somehow made red lipstick and dark sunglasses her thing, despite both existing far before Swift. Taylor Swift is basically a meme on Tumblr, while other stars on Tumblr like Lorde are basically just followed by stans. Her guest stars on tour were talked about, and her "feminism" was discussed online. I don't really like Swift, but it's ridiculous to say she has not been wildly successful for her first pop album.

Now, do I think this is equivalent to Gaga's meteoric rise? Not really. Gaga was a pop culture phenomenon while Swift was a pop music phenomenon. There are other stars that have done exceptionally well, even in this difficult sales climate - Adele continues to get albums moving, and Beyonce is basically a cultural fixture. But none of them individually got that height.

It'll be a while before we see something of that magnitude again. Gaga may have another successful era (and I hope she does), but a lot of her initial rise was the mystery behind her as well as the antics. The mystery is gone, her weirdness doesn't really excite anyone anymore, and she's become more "normal" by dressing "classily" for awards shows and singing jazz covers. But that's okay.

taylor, katy and adele did

Yes tbh , only these 3 did , although Gaga did it on a much bigger scale , even though Adele sold way more than Gaga, Gagas impact was greater.

But yea the closest thing we got to TF/TFM slayage was

Katy with Teenage Dream

Taylor with 1989

and Adele with 21 & 25
