I don't think you and @Lioness really get it. Take one thing to consideration, many of these comments are made by people who live in the West, but have some sort of connections to these countries, whether it's family ties or friends, whatever. So it probably hurts to see huge differences in media coverage and expressions of sympathy. Notice how this thread can't get to second page, people don't bother to post RIP anymore and we have members from all over the world. But when similar thing happens in West BOTH western and non-western members post in 10+ pages thread to express their "irrational anger" or sympathy. Media does not care about anybody. They care about clicks and ratings. But media can also shape minds of people. The biggest reason people start to riot, demand revenge or blame immigrants and refugees for terrorism in the West is because most don't have understanding or sympathy for the death and destruction these non-Westerners escaped. It's also because Western governments are involved in bombings of these countries, so of course media doesn't want you to know about faces and names drones or terrorists have killed "over there, far away". They're just numbers. No one is asking them to "care more", but to be more fair. So people wouldn't have this idea that these countries are just full of savages who are now all invading the West and threatening your culture. "It happens too often" is really heartless thing to say, it should never become a norm. Istanbul is European city, but bombings there sparked a debate about Kurdish issue. There was no much expressions of anger or sadness. But if you remember, Western media shockingly reported how huligans in stadium didn't respect moment of silence for victims of terrorism in West... but they see their victims don't matter so it's not really strange, is it? There is a difference between big headlines and tens of articles every day (for weeks) about one tragic event vs. one headline and then it's buried somewhere under other news. Anyway, I wanted to say more but I'm too tired, I probably forgot something. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say. I agree with what you've said in this post and I can see why people make these types of posts but I'm just tired of seeing this everywhere. These type of comments such as "If this was in the West..." or "Why is the media not reporting this?" are so annoying. This news is literally EVERYWHERE. All major news networks are talking about it, I see tons of people sending prayers and sympathy. What more do they want? You can't force people to react more than they do. The truth is all of us who live in the West are gonna continue with our lives tomorrow completely unaffected by this tragedy. Yes, it sounds cruel and it is hypocritical and makes it seem as if we value Western lives over others. But is there really the need to hijack every major news site with "Why is no one trending #JeSuisLahore?" .... you know what I mean? I'm not saying people are wrong for pointing it out but the tone behind these posts to me is just so disrespectful. Instead of asking hypothetical questions we all know the answer to why not contribute to the change you wanna see by sending condolences or even starting a hashtag yourself where people can send kind thoughts? Also, it is part of human nature to feel more impacted by something close to you. If you live in the West you live in a sheltered bubble. We are some of the most privileged people on Earth. There are people around the world who would kill to live like we do. So when there is an attack on OUR side of the world of course people will react more. That sheltered bubble is being destroyed. Just look at Europe. So many major attacks in the past year alone. People will start feeling unsafe and uneasy. This is exactly what terrorists want to happen. The anti-immigrant, etc. sentiments and laws will just foster even more extremism. Their goal is to create all out war. And yes, in some countries like Pakistian, Iraq, this is the reality which we DON'T want to happen here. You know when 9/11 happened here in the US it totally changed this country forever? It even changed the entire world. You simply can't compare the impact of an attack on a non-Western nation where violence like this is more common with a major Western country. You yourself have said how people on this very site seem to care more about events that happen in Western countries. But can you blame them? What will have an actual impact on your life? A terror attack in Ghana or a terror attack in London? I think we all know the answer to that. Back on topic, this tragedy is horrible. The fact that people are targeted for their religion is truly disgusting.

Well most people in western countries don't. This basically just shows I am right about people caring about the countries they relate to. So yes, you're just coming in full circile with this argument. You can't expect media to treat everyone equal. You, yourself, probably doesn't even do that. So, if I go in every death related thread in this forum you will have writen a comment in most of them, right? I mean that's if you practice what you preach. and you value every tragedy the same. Just like you expect media to do that. Anyway I do get you. And media is a part too blame but you can't expect western media to care as much about a bombing in another country as in a country in their territory. Just like you have your own agenda about things you care more about. Besides if you think when media makes as big of a deal about a bombing somewhere else, that will make an ignorant person somehow be enlightened, you are wrong. Ignorant people will be ignorant. You have so much information on the internet, you really think these people haven't looked anything up? Ofcourse they have and ofcourse they know what's happening outside of their bubble. So media won't change an ignorant's mind either imo. 10 hours ago, YourSweet666 said: ... But non-Western members have commented in both Paris and Brussels threads and some have liked the comments you're attacking. So where is the hypocrisy? You are defending the media and calling out others here, it doesn't really make sense. You're again talking about media "caring" as if it's a person and I was not talking about that. I was not talking about what is more relatable either. Ignorant people don't always stay ignorant and not everyone bothers to research. You are ignoring the fact how these things affect foreign looking people in Western countries, they are seen as a threat istead of people who have gone through the same or worse. I don't have an agenda and your tone seems very hostile. So I'll just leave it at this. FreePalestine

I see them everywhere and everytime when there is a non western attack lately. I hope both of you have been posting a 'RIP' comment in every single topic for every tragic event since you became a member. These comments are so annoying and really have become a trend since the last attack on Brussels. It has been for ever that western media mostly cares bout events happening in the western countries. A nice example is the shooting on Charlie Hebdo when a few days earlier literally 2,000 people died from an attack in Nigeria. But you know about that right? Because otherwise you're just a sheep and just now complaining because every 'moral' human being seems to do so atm. Anyway, you expect every western country to report about every single bombing? Well then good for you because this has been covered by many western media's. But oh wait, they have to be covered by as much attention as attacks on western ground according to you! Well that's not going to happen. I do understand A LIFE IS EQUAL no matter where you live. But ofcourse tragedies that happen close to you or countries you relate to will be more of a deal than a country whose ideals you do not relate too. This isn't only for muslim countries, this goes as well for Asian countries or even countries like Russia which get less media coverage. Do you think these countries also treat every tragedy with the same attention? No, and it's a normal thing to do. But that does not mean they don't care. Of course they do but they just don't relate as much. Also western media has reported many times about bombings and wars years ago, but it became such a recurringsubject that people would be less shocked about bombings outside the western countries. Of course this is a false thing because a bombing may have occured as rarely in Kuwait as in Brussels, for example, but people tend to pit every country (outside the western ones) in one group. And if you want to make a change, educate people about that. So, the sentence about 'western media doesn't give a ****' is just invalid. They do give a ****, just not as big of a **** as they do about tragedies close to home. Finally, point is stop caring about media and care about the victims. And if you wanna comment about how the western media seems to ignoring bombings in muslim countries, please take it elsewhere and not in a topic about the bombing. It's disrespectful, annoying and makes u look like u have an agenda, just like western media. Reason I wrote this is because I'm tired of these comments. (Also if you are western and you think your media news site doesn't report enough about bombing, use Google and look for a site that does. I will reassure you there are many English news sites that do care ). On-topic: This pointless killing really needs to stop. 14 hours ago, Simon said: Its all over The Media here 13 hours ago, Morphine Prince said: Drag the people that want to act like they're somehow enlightened because they point this out. If you pay CLOSE attention to what I said, I didn't specify the media of which part of the world, I said "the media" meaning the media of the entire world, including the media of the middle east. And if you deny that fact that the whole world shakes when something happens to western countries but then remain silent when worse things happen in other parts of the world, y'all are delusional as ****. I don't relate to nor Pakistan neither western countries, I'm from Oman, one of the safest countries in the entire world, but I do care about innocent people be it a western country or an eastern country. My argument is only about the fact that the entire world shakes, including Arab countries, "only" when it's a western country.
LeoFameMonster 1,592
I don't understand how these Fuking terrorists target these countries with major muslim populations, Indonesia, turkey, and now Pakistan. It's so sick that they attacked women and children on Easter while celebrating Easter. At least those victims are in heaven for sure, God has them now. I am so enraged by them/

Like that one post about "JeSuis___" .... I find it disrespectful to the France victims. I also see people asking why Facebook didn't do the profile picture flag thing like they did for France. Well they didn't do it for Belgium either. I'm pretty sure the November 2015 attacks have been the worst terror attacks in the West in many years. It is "humanity vs. terror" but the "us vs. them" mentalitiy is literally human nature. You can't expect people to react the to everything equally.
