The 34-year-old Ngerng, a former healthcare programme coordinator at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, had written a blogpost in May 2014 allegedly comparing the Government's usage of CPF monies to the City Harvest Church leaders' alleged misuse of church funds. In his blog, he charged that the Government did so via the Government’s investment arms, Temasek Holdings and GIC.

Therefore, he has been ordered to pay the highest paid Prime Minister in the world SGD$150000 in damages due to the fact that he simply made a claim about him on his blog, because...why not?

I mean it's great way to threaten the citizens and silence us though...

Roy deserved it. :smh: He deserves no sympathy after heckling and protesting at a performance by kids with special needs. Also, he was given multiple chances to resolve this quietly but he had to blow it out of proportion. Besides, he's being made to pay the fine in $100 installments so they're not forcing him into bankruptcy which is much more lenient than what i expected. One of those black sheeps that give a bad name to the gay community here.

I'm sorry but he's not going to pay the kids with special needs, or the gay community. He's paying one of the richest men in the world instead.

It doesn't matter if he's paying a poor or rich man. He defamed a person, got sued and got what he deserved.

But PM Lee doesn't deserve that $150,000 too.

When you're defaming someone of his standing, $150,000 is too little. It's the message that this sends out to everyone to be careful of what you say with no substantial evidence behind it. He'll be paying installments to the PM for the next 17 years as a result.

Let's ask our friends here if they would be fine with their countries's president suing a citizen and getting payments for such a thing shall we?

he was suing him in his personal capacity, not as the prime minister of singapore. So are you insinuating that if you're the head of state you have no rights to sue people who are defaming your character and reputation??

So if he has the right and he does it, what's your issue? Roy was stating that he, and by extension the entire ruling party was corrupt and misappropriated the money, he broke the law and defamed someone. If he kept quiet, we'll be ending up like our neighbour across the causeway.

It's called democracy. People have the right to vote for who they believe in.

And I have the right to believe that this is extortion.

Would that mean that Gaga can sue her haters for 'defamation' too?
