Versailles - the most "sexually explicit show ever" causes outrage

Lavish costume drama Versailles, dubbed the most "sexually explicit show ever", has been slammed ahead of its UK air date by MPs and family rights campaigners for its nudity and graphic sex scenes. Versailles depicts the debauched life of France's Louis XIV.

"There are channels where, if you wish to view this sort of material, you would have to pay for it. BBC viewers don't have a choice. They have to pay for it whether they approve or not," said Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen. Is this an example of the BBC dumbing down and seeking more sensationalised programming? That's an arms race to the bottom - quite literally in this case.

The series, which is said to feature gay sex, a cross-dressing prince and a queen with a penchant for dwarves, was acquired in August last year and is set to air on the BBC in May.

Versailles is also reported to feature graphic violence and Norman Wells, director of the Family Education Trust, argued that it's hard to see "whose benefit is being served by showing such highly graphic and explicit scenes on TV".

Mediawatch UK's Sam Burnett added: "Dressing up ****ography and violence in a cravat and tights doesn't make it cultural."

Versailles stars British actor George Blagden as the Sun King Louis XIV, alongside the likes of Noémie Schmidt, Alexander Vlahos, Tygh Runyan and Anna Brewster.

Wait, people don't have sex and violence back then? How is this terrible? If you don't like the show, change the channel :saladga: I pay for Netflix but that doesn't mean I approve all the shows and movies on it. What a stupid argument :neyde:

I fell down the stairs once as an actor.

Wow. The trailer looks great and it seems to be a really big production. I'm very interested in that.

I think using sex and violence can be a way to appeal to the audience, sure...but it can be a necessity, if you're trying to depict reality, and it can also be a stylistic approach to one's work (Tarantino, a genius, and violence go hand in hand)...I didn't watch the series in order to asses for myself what's going on, but it doesn't seem to be that different from a "Game of Thrones" kind of show, so, frankly, depending on the time slot it's being aired, on what's the target audience of the TV channel, on what's on before and afterwards, on what else is going on in the show, it's really not that big of a deal...

Ppl should stop acting as if sex and violence were not an inexorable part of human existence...and I'm not saying "let's banalize it", what I'm saying is, let's stop pretending it doesn't exist..."oh, but what about the children?", you can take responsibility as a parent and either not let them watch it or explain to them what's going on and steer their minds to a healthy, well-balanced direction (they're going to find out about those things one way or another and they can either have you, mom and dad, to guide them or they can have a buddy who'll probably be just as lost as them)...I'd watch Casino, by the age of 10, with my parents and they'd make sure I wasn't walking away with the wrong ideas in my head...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I'd need to see these "gay sex scenes" for myself to come to a concluding opinion. :green:
