i find it funny whenever people say others have "too much time" or in this case, are being unproductive for commenting online... in an online comment. :gaycat:

I didn't say people who comment online have too much time. I said people who are "bothered" have too much time. Spend all the time you like talking on the internet. However, when it comes to angry, offended, and pointless moral crusading online there is nothing more unproductive in the world.

but those bothered people, we post our "pointless moral crusades" in comments dont we? what you are really saying is we should only speak if we're being agreeable, then. we should turn off the anger and morality switches in our brains.

tell me how is intellectual debate unproductive? the internet's primary function is to connect people and share info. unfortunately for gaga and unconditionally ignorant loyal fans, that shared info aint always gonna be pleasant.

the willingly ignorant might read one of those pointless crusades and it might procure a change in them, fyi.

I think Raven's "I'm an American" comment was something to praise (some of the other things she's said tho... not so much :toofunny:) and I don't think Gaga was in the wrong either.

Raven's hate was stupid

and Gaga was right with what she said. No one is any color. Everyone is theirselves and everyone is human.

Okay but we can't ignore the fact that color IS real and no one in this world is color-blind. Even if you don't think that's true, our political systems are most certainly not color-blind.

Yes, people are much more than the color of their skin, but to some the color of their skin is very important, and you have no place in telling that they can't feel that way. I, for one, think that I am very much my brown skin and I'm proud of that, but my brown skin also puts me at a disadvantage financially, socially, and politically. Gaga's comment maybe have been well-intentioned and maybe have seemed harmless, but it was very poorly worded and seemed ignorant because it's easy for a white person to denounce their whiteness when there is no oppression behind it.

While POC don't want to be defined by the color of their skin, what that really means is that we don't want to be DISCRIMINATED by the color of our skin, because we ARE the color of our skin.

'I'm not going to spend my life being a color'

Exactly.

This is spiraling way put of control. Skin colour isn't and shouldn't be the defining characteristic for anyone.

You literally created this thread to make people drag Gaga. What an amazing fan you are.

And tbh she meant well, she was talking about herself and not imposing her beliefs on us like some people want us to believe. There's no way she can talk about race issues without offending someone so I'm glad she doesn't do that most of the time.

No that is not what I'm really saying. No one should turn off their anger or morality, but tweeting and commenting online is not a productive way to express those things. Anger and morals don't amount to much without real world action. Besides we are talking about celebrities making statements on media. It's pointless to crusade about some little thing a famous person said.

Ranting about disagreeing with some celebrities opinion is not going to "procure a change" in anyone.  Social media and pop forums rarely have "intellectual debates" they have a lot of silly whining and ignorance. Smart debates are great, but that's not what results from attacking celebrities over statements they've made on the internet.

He does it all the time. He's always trying to drag Gaga, or if that fails, getting others to drag Gaga so that he can watch.

What gaga obviously meant to say is that race shouldnt define her. She is an artist and the color of her skin is not a subject that should matter. She is not saying white is not a color or implying anything, just saying that her skin color is not relevant to her, she is just herself and doesnt define or see herself through the color of her skin like many people do

There's no evil in her mind but it is ignorant nonetheless. She has always showed that she has no awareness of racial issue whatsoever.
