First and foremost, Do What U Want is Gaga's love letter to R&B. So she wanted the King of R&B to give it his blessing (Gaga only works with legends). Secondly, she seems to like supporting artists from Chicago. Remember her collaboration with Chi town rapper Wale? Lastly, R Kelly plays the role of the media in the song. You know, the media which tried to destroy his career? And hers. So it's like a pop culture soap opera, with the audience in the middle going "Oh no she didn't!" Both R Kelly and Gaga are very operatic in their performances. The decision to have Terry Richardson, who famously worked with Beyonce and Miley Cyrus, only adds to the Greek epic comedy-tragedy of it all. This song is so confounding.

I remember reading awhile back on ONTD that the main reason was a surprise/gift to Tara because he is her favorite artist. Tara got to spend a lot of time with them both after 'ARTPOP' came out and enjoy the track they made together. Obviously, if this is true, it showcases what type of friend Gaga is. Which is awesome to hear. It also displays how naive she can be. That's less awesome, to tell you the truth. I hope she looks into people more in the future either way. R. Kelly is disgusting. There's a lot of R&B legends that haven't raped young girls (and, ya know, he still does) or spewed rampant homophobia.

cuzz she genuinely likes his music and admires his talent and they got along well, and she's pretty naive sometimes. She strives to see the good in people.

^

I mean, he is hailed as the "King of R&B" so...past aside, she admires him for his work which is perfectly fine

You're stinky

If I remember correctly, they have just finished mastering for the solo version and they had to present it to the label in a day or two. DJWS suddenly had an idea and asked Gaga if it's OK if he called some people. Gaga gave him the go ahead and DJWS sent the song to R Kelly's camp and in just a day, he got a copy of R Kelly singing his verse. It was all spontaneous, no planning, Gaga and R Kelly did not even record together. I guess Interscope picked the version with R Kelly in it which I am grateful for because that version slays, disregarding the history and just looking at it as a song. dinner.gif

The solo version slays more though

Because DWUW is about the media metaphorically raping Gaga's image, so who better to portray the media in the song than R Kelly? :green:

It's a "**** me" song as much as it's a "**** you" song.

Wrote the song, got the opportunity to work with who she calls the "king of R&B", said yes, probably naive to his past, probably thought that he was wrongfully accused by the media, did it partially because Tara loves him, lots of spontaneity. It just kinda happened.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

And don't forget Colby o'donnis or whatevs his name is. What's your point? Yeah she chooses to work with legends. But at the same time she also gives others a chance to work with a legend. As long as it's for the music.
