To me though, that's all just pop music? Sure, it's got some dance influences there but these songs can't really be classed as dance tracks.

Stache, to me, is more of an attempt at making an actual Dance track over a pop one.

Well I believe thst they're pop influenced, but pure pop music is really coming back with artists such as Taylor, Ariana,  and Justin Bieber dominating the charts.

A dance track over a pop song? In your opinion, what is the difference between a dance track and a pop one?

Well Dance (as an entire genre) is a completely different genre to pop? Sure, there's a tonne of dance/pop on the charts but they all follow pop's structure of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, middle eight, chorus whilst a lot of Dance tends to stay away from that.

They are all dance tracks that is what dance music have evolved into pop music is different to songs like turn the music louder and do it again and overdrive. Pop music is blank space and problem and stitches by Shawn Mendes etc. But those dance songs are also classed as pop because of how popular they are but they are still proper dance tracks.

My point was, Gaga's spoken word over a Zedd instrumental to me is more Dance than your typical pop/dance crossover.

Take Overdrive for example, that's been cut up, shuffled around, made louder and had vocals put over it to make a pop/dance hit. The original would have been shunned away from pop scene so it was heavily altered to make a pop song.

Bieber's been releasing nothing but pop/dance tracks though (bar Love Yourself). You wouldn't hear Where Are U Now, Sorry or What Do You Mean? on the dance scene. You'll hear it in commercial clubs but not on the actual scene.

So EDM is dead... So what are music lovers here for these days?

I think people are all about that tropical house life at the minute.  Laid back dance music I'd say.  However I live in the UK so can only speak for that.

Tropical as in reggae? Or just slower beats? Example?

What Do You Mean is such a pop song to me, though. :air:

The simple production, repetitive chorus, and universal message all screams pop.

Edit: OH I think I see what you mean. Yeah pop is taking over, versus when EDM was the main trending genre on top 40.

No, as in deep house. Such as Kygo or Sigala.  You could say Bieber's Sorry as that has a lot of influence from tropical house.

If anything, this thread proves how fickle and temporary top 40 is, and if you want to be a relevant artist who sticks around for a long time you should NEVER cater to what's popular at the moment.

For instance, when Usher ditched r&b for dance-pop, he found tremendous success. But when top 40 moved on, he tried to weasle his way back into r&b and he hasn't been successful.

Good question. I actually looked up the biggest hits in 2012, and many were pop hits. It seemed like EDM was dominating for some reason though.
