Are Mods Too Strict On Forum Guidelines?

I see a lot of threads get closed prematurely because someone has a differing opinion, or an unpopular opinion, or certain members just can't keep fro arguing, so I'm just wondering, are the mods too strict in their ability to close and lock threads, along with handing out WPs like homework? 

I remember old school ggd when no one told us how to interact, put limitations on our opinions, or threatened to take away something because it wasn't deemed appropriate by them. And I don't agree with this system. 

No shade to the current mods, but I already have parents who taught me how to behave, but as an adult I have thoughts and know how to form opinions, whether someone else agrees with them or not. While yes, there are the occasional bad users who are out for nothing more than flame bait and arguments, should they really be censored; or just ignored...? 

I'm not sure I like someone monitoring and negotiating what I or anyone says. Big brother much? No one wants the government to spy in our phones, so why be in the same vein and monitor and dictate what topics are appropriate and what opinions are deemed mentionable? 

 

Just a combination question/thought

But to be fair there are lots of nice pop forums with less strict rules like pophatesfags or pieceofpop there you  can say whatever you want and it's okay

Gonna have to lock this because discussing moderation publicly like this isn't really allowed  I feel like this is working in favour of you saying that we prematurely close threads but know that it's as a preventative measure  

There are 3 "main" sides most of the time:

1. The side that think we're too strict
2. The side that think we're too lenient
3. The side that think we're alright

We're here with ears open and can take things on board and make improvements  We don't usually go by threads like this because they have a tendency to get overly messy and get locked, so it's better to just lock it asap and skip the mess  My apologies if this is raining on things, it's certainly not the intention.
