Tell that to the European countries (and Japan) with this system currently facing huge economic problems. Socialism is nice and all but it doesn't function well in a world where imperfect humans exist. There is always going to be corruption. There are always going to be leeches and essentially useless people in society who do not contribute remotely enough compared to what they receive. In the same vein, the ratio of retired to employed people is rapidly increasing. This poses a problem to many well-developed countries. There are always going to be financial disparities given how current systems work (professions related to media will always make $$$$$$ for example). etc... Edited just now by LebaneseDude. You can't eliminate money and power influences, but you can certainly impede them rather than embrace them. Bernie Sanders has at least gone so far as to show that a campaign can be financed without them- I'd say that's a clear step in the right direction. Repealing Citizens United would be another.
