I kind of struggle to get the term 'survivor' while for such long time she was not even sure if it was rape or not. People say Americans could perceive anything a rape.

Survivor as in, she didn't commit suicide over it, not that the situation was violent. There are actually studies that have been done that show that in many cases of rape, it gets repressed and you don't consciously think about it because of the trauma it caused.

Additionally, admitting you were raped is a hard thing because of the implications it has. It means that A) you were not in control of your life which is frowned upon socially B) that you could potentially be making something out of nothing C) that this is normal and you are just being overly emotional/hysteric over nothing; also frowned upon D) The labeling that will be put upon you regardless of what people think. They'll say, "oh that's the person who was raped." It becomes gossip fodder.

Imagine what the paps would have done with this story if they found out sooner? She would be mortified and again not in control.

Rape is also any unwanted sexual advances. By that logic, if you're coerced into it, you feel as though you gave consent to it so it may not be rape and you're being overly dramatic and callous towards actual victims and denying your own personal experience.

Rape is a really something that occurs on an individual basis and needs to be seen as such. I think that's where the confusion lies with Gaga's story.

Sure I know but I think there is a difference between rough rape resulting in physical and deep mental damage and abusive touch/approach. Of course rape shouldn't be something that one can rank, but I just have impression these days anyone can be raped and deeply emotionaly damaged. My father was touching and abusing me when I was a kid but to be honest it resulted only in me being disgusted by him and I having little more awkward introduction to sex life. The reaction differs from person to person but in some cases I can sense attention seeking (not pointing out at anyone).

There you have it.

Everyone processes things differently. Calling them attention seekers just seems...awful. Many are just trying to open a dialog with other people who have also been through rape and sexual abuse to empower one another and get through the stigmatized feeling they might have. If people want to refer to themselves as survivors, then I'm not really seeing the big issue? They indeed survived a horrible thing that no one should ever have to go through.

I'm very, very sorry to hear this happened to you btw.

I find it strange that we as fans know more about certain aspects of Gaga than her own family members because we watch all her interviews.

Heres a quote. Check page for full article:

"My grandmother ... and my Aunt Sheri ... both called me the day after the Oscars because I never told them I was a survivor," she wrote under a photo of female members of her family. "I was too ashamed. Too afraid. And it took me a long time to even admit it to myself because I'm Catholic and I knew it was evil but I thought it was my fault. I thought it was my fault for 10 years. "

"I could hear (her tears) welling through the phone she said to me, 'My darling granddaughter, I've never been more proud of you than I am today.' Something I have kept a secret for so long that I was more ashamed of than anything — became the thing the women in my life were the most proud of. And not just any women, the ones I look up to the most."

I guess now its comfirmed after all :(

Well to be fair she still never actually said she was raped in that post. She said she is a survivor [of some form of sexual assault].

True i guess theres a small shred of doubt

i hate to aound bad but sometimes gaga really seems to do some things for attention (like most stars)

i dont doubt she was abused in sone way. I wouldnt be too shocked tho if she purposely gives off impression it was rape without actually saying it but in reality the abuse was more subtle

im not saying thats the case tho. Merely that i wouldnt be shocked

but ill give her the benefit of the doubt
