Regiment 901
Do songs like Monster and Dance in The Dark convey a new meaning now that she shed light on her sexual abuse? "I wanna Just Dance But he took me home instead Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed We french kissed on a subway train He tore my clothes right off He ate my heart and then he ate my brain" "Baby loves to dance in the dark 'Cause when he's lookin' she falls apart"
JevyDuty 2,961
Makes a lot of sense in retrospect. Definitely.

Rino 5,120
idk, I think we will never be able to say it for sure unless Gaga herself makes it clear. maybe I'm saying this because I love Monster to death. it's such a sexy dance song and I don't want the rape message to be hidden in it - it would ruin all the fun 月にかわって、おしおきよ!🌙
Lord Temptation 11,209
Quite an astute observation. Just last week I posted even her first album The Fame is all about the lust for power and money, how we are all characters looking for an audience. Gaga wrote the album between 06-08, barely a year after she got raped. I can only sense that the album was, in her own creative way, part of her healing process. The Fame Monster then further explores the dark side of fame, the fear and the paranoia. Bloody hell Gaga is a genius.
Supersonic 49,376
I think contemporary critics made it obvious that Monster is about date rape. I thought everybody knew that.
jobot 136
Yeah, I think so - looking back with what we know now. And this line in particular: "He tore my clothes right off He ate my heart and then he ate my brain" He ate her brain - the trauma of what happened resulted in brain damage. Edonis 28,950
I think it makes it much easier to imagine how she felt when she wrote those songs and why they were on there. Also, there are some people talking about not knowing that Monster was about someone being predatory to Gaga...how did you not know? I mean, the bridge, the chorus, it's not exactly about some cute guy who takes her clothes off and loves for him to be rough with her...
