After her iconic Oscar performance last year (which, arguably, brought the Oscars back to pop-cultural, mass relevance), it is disappointing that they wouldn't, in turn, make her a winner. I'm not saying that anyone who performs well on the show deserves an Oscar, not at all - but I do believe that Gaga's performance was more than just a 'good performance'. There isn't one major pop artist who could do what Gaga did that night; and not just vocally. And Samantha Smith just tweaked the song written mostly by his co-writer and now he has an Oscar.
