I guess patience is key, though
LastNight 5,936
It takes time, it's as simple as that. Musicians either have decades in the business under their belt, or they have passed away (thus leaving behind a legacy that people connect to) in order to be considered an icon, in my opinion. It's all about perspective, looking back at something and thinking "wow that was incredible" - to me you cannot be considered a legend in the early peaks of your career, there needs to be some distance to know how well the music and the performances stand the test of time. Gaga is in the midst of a huge reinvention/comeback/whatever you want to call it, right now. There's still so much of her story to watch unfold that will determine how she is considered in later years, but I think it's safe to assume she will be considered legendary as the decades pass. She even said herself (and I'm paraphrasing) that she isn't appreciated now and doesn't want to be, she wants to be appreciated in 20 years time when people look back and realise how sensational she really was. We're the lucky ones because we're living through it, fully aware of how talented and influential she has been.

(Amy Winehouse is a perfect example. Only had 2 albums, and only one of those was really known by the mainstream. But her talent was undeniable, so in death, legend status was cemented.) I do think Gaga will be recognized as a legend. LG5, if successful, could be sufficient enough to merit that status, if not immediately, then upon looking back in years to come. We are indeed the lucky ones. There is only 1 Lady Gaga. How much better to revel in her life and accomplishments as they come than to look back years from now, knowing the brilliance we could have been a part of. It is not that I really think of Gaga as a god, or a false idol. But she is AN idol to us all. It is not just her immense talent, but her beautiful, inspiring, f***ed up soul that grabbed our attention and said "This is something special. This is something big." Lucky we are, indeed, to have someone in our lifetime so worthy of idolising.
Kayla 7,595
One requirement for being a Legend is standing the test of time. We may know Gaga is going to, but she needs to actually DO it first.
REALITY 77,504
She's still relatively early in her career, and while I really don't want to make this post morbid, artists really gain a lot of recognition for all of their works once they have passed away. While we know Gaga's going to be/is a legend, she might not get all the recognition she deserves after she's gone. George 363
I think it is a matter of timing and age. No one in Gaga's generation is considered a legend yet ( Maybe Britney but up for debate ) Hello, it's me
