Trump amid KKK controversy, backlash ensues

Washington (CNN) - Donald Trump stumbled into a racially charged controversy Sunday, saying in an interview on CNN that he didn't know enough to disavow former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke.

Hours later, Trump tried to clean up his comments on Twitter amid an outpouring of criticism from his Republican presidential rivals. Sen. Marco Rubio slammed the remarks, saying they make Trump "unelectable."

The Sunday uproar started when Trump was pressed by CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" about whether he would disavow Duke and other white supremacist groups that are supporting his campaign.

"Just so you understand, I don't know anything about David Duke, OK?" Trump said.

Trump was pressed three times on whether he'd distance himself from the Ku Klux Klan -- but never mentioned the group in his answers.

"I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists," he said. "So I don't know. I don't know -- did he endorse me, or what's going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke; I know nothing about white supremacists."

Despite what he said Sunday, Trump apparently did know Duke in 2000 -- citing him, as well as Pat Buchanan and Lenora Fulani -- in a statement that year explaining why he had decided to end his brief flirtation with a Reform Party presidential campaign.

"The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani. This is not company I wish to keep," Trump said in a statement reported then by The New York Times.

I know we hate him and all but why are people aways so extra on him?:laughga:He didn't say he supports the kkk, he's just saying he knows nothing about it. I'm saying this as a non american and an outsider to the whole thing. Like y'all are actually doing him a favor and some dumb people might actually vote for him, cause everyone are so against him that it feels like he's breaking the status quo. You are building his platform for free. He's like a troll online the more you feed him the more you lose and the more he gains. Look at how far it got him - when he said he was going to run it all sounded like a big joke and some meme and now people are talking that he might win the nomination...

Everyone in the US knows about this topic because they eventually cross it in History classes, it's ignorant for him to say that he doesn't know about it because he does, he should seeing as how his state required him to study some History. His remark goes off as "I don't know them and I can't say anything about them" when everyone knows they're white supremacists who cause violence and terror to kill homosexuals, African Americans, Latinos, etc. Imo this proves his stance as a white supremacist, anyone with common sense would've said that they don't support them and they do not want to be affiliated with them.

I hope he wins the nomination after this, so a Democrat president has a bigger chance of winning.

Really sad how he refuses to comment on a club and ideology like that, though... But oh well, Trump himself is a fascist and he has to keep the extremer fascists as friends, too, next to dumb chavs of course.

Well, he does know about him. Read the entire text posted in the OP. He's lying, as usual.

However you're right about attention making him more powerful. His campaign strategy is quite impressive and will be studied in the future tbh lmao.

But I doubt his followers are fazed by this. We have all seen the interviews and videos of his voters. Of course not everyone, but I don't think this backlash will actually affect him.

All Americans know what the KKK is.

Nnnn, I had not head of this. I wonder if the mainstream media or the other candidates will bring this up.

They can't prove it

"A person answering calls at the N.Y.C. Police Department's Records Section said that arrest reports dating that far back were not available in any form."

Bad Bromance

Trump is a lying bastard.  Every single person in the United States knows what the KKK represents.  Why didn't he say he didn't want to be associated with that racist group?  I'll tell you why, because he's a racist who probably believes in everything that the KKK stands for, tbh.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.
