Katie14 4,828
When she sings "air" When she sings the last part of "man" I love the way this sounds. It sounds like she is releasing a note from under another one, if that makes any sense. Does anyone know if this is a special vocal technique or something? PartySick 160,267
I've always called it "breaking your voice on purpose" 'cause that's what it sounds like to me and I know no better But I do love it too Billionaires are a cancer. Even the ones you like.
KURUSHITOVSKA 20,451
Isn't it a falsetto or something like that? I don't know how I would call it but I love it. I screamed when she did it at the SB I know a falsetto is when someone sings in a high pitched tone a la Jamiroquai and Mika EDIT: oops don't mind me I thought you were talking about the "land of the free" part ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula? When you go from chest to that lighter voice, with more head resonance, if you don't keep the pressure and keep calm, you'll end up not blending the registers. It won't sound as one same voice but two different voices. The extreme of it is yodelling and it's very notorious on brass inst. happens at 00:10 Trying to imitate a trumpet is very good to understand how to belt
HauntingHollow 4,310
Idk if there is a term for that other than it being just a belting, i guess it sound that way cuz she unleashes vibrato really fast there, idk .... You can not hide if nobody pays attention to you :*

The Professor 1,060
Isn't she just releasing the vibrato on her voice?

Ribs 160
I think that's what they call vocal breaks. Mariah and Sia do them a lot. 2:02 til the end: 3:10 onwards

The only way you can understand what she's doing is by trying to replicate it. This sound she does is glottural, it comes from the throat. You may try saying the vowel ah in two ways to see the difirence. How you usualy say and the second time "holding" a bit in the throat, not so easy sound. The larynx moves the same way and there's a bit of a break in the sound. It's not very healthy if used many times. When a baby cries, it's usually weeeeheeee, the h is a glottural sound for the baby to create emphasis in it's little drama. So does Gaga
