Lumi 3,512
I think this thread speaks for itself. You can say whatever you want about Britney's legacy and I think she's a very nice girl, but when someone wants to say pop is shitty they will always mention Britney as a bad example, it's a fact. underneath the pine

Iwontell 7,312
Hmmm...yes and no (much like every other pop star), I guess. She's one of the most charismatic figures in pop music (specially after the 2007 events...most ppl want her to do well, most ppl have real sympathy towards her), she's been around for a long time (which has allowed her to collect some hits, build a fanbase and establish herself as an iconic figure), she's still a very profitable artist (not only in music/concerts, but she has a lot of licensed products, like perfumes, underwear, etc.)...so she's respected in the sense that, no matter what, she has remained an icon in pop music for the past 20 years, which is no easy feat, and her name is reliable in a way that a lot of younger acts are not, not to mention that she's very professional about what she does (you always see her rehearsing weeks in advance, you never hear about Britney being late or about diva behavior, etc.)... At the same time, I believe a lot of people feel she lacks both the skills and the ambition that pop music demands right now...when she came up the scenario was very different...now you have pop starts that can write their own stuff, that can dance, sing, come up with the craziest concepts, that also look good, that have every kind of connection that back in the day were not necessary...so the "Britney package" might not feel as appealing as it once was when you compare it to the "Beyoncé package", for example...in that sense I don't think she's that "respected". However, a lot of the criticism I see directed at Britney (that she can't sing, that she doesn't seem to put a lot of effort into what she does, that she relies on ghostwriters, etc.) could be perfectly applied to other BIG, somewhat respected pop-stars - whose name I won't mention - but it simply isn't...so I can't help wondering how fair is the criticism Britney gets, meaning she either deservers the same respect we give these other girls I won't mention, or ppl are just really full of ****... I agree with all of this except the end part where you said that people want the Beyonce package not the Britney package I think Britney can dance better than bey and she can sing too ok she doesn't have a strong loud wow voice but she can sound good she is talented she knows what she wants. I feel Britney has had the right tactics all the way through her career whereas Beyonce seems to have lost her way with new music being messy and weak
Supersonic 49,376
I love Britney to death but generally speaking I don't think she's generally "respected" as an artist, performer or even as a human being by the majority of people. I admire her strength that pulled her through till now and how she has finally found her spark again, even though she's still subject of public ridicule due to her breakdown (which was basically caused by the same people that ridicule her for it.) PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
Britney is a legend. Those who can't see that, I just don't understand. I don't care for her but there's no denying the legacy she's left on the industry

At least have some dignity there's one thing to have petty stan wars, but to think someone doesn't deserve respect enough to be a human wonder what you'll think if others say the same thing about Gaga You have respect for drug addicts who choose to use that lifestyle around their young children? You truly must be sick.

Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera are cool and respect Britney now because they grew up unlike Katy Perry who has the intelligence of a goldfish. Gaga has called out britney lip syncing but that's not disrespectful and she still loves Britney since she attended the piece of me show after and britneys dad cooked fried chicken for Gaga backstage. Britney herself doesn't care about the neyde meme or people mocking her mental breakdown in 2007. Does Britney get treated unfairly? Yes of course but at the end of the day, Britney is happy right now doing vegas shows, recording her next album and being a good mother and raising her children. People that mock Britney still admit that she solidified herself as a pop icon.
