lucastecala 795 Posted February 25, 2016 Share Posted February 25, 2016 So, I was inclined to accept that maybe Gaga had missed the point on her David Bowie Tribute, and then I went to youtube to check some of his live perfomances. I, then, found this gem: his 1987 Glass Spider Tour. It could not have been clearer to me after watching what Gaga meant by her tribute, and which David Bowie she was tributing not only with her performance but with her entire career. NME's article says Lorde's tribute was better because it was subtle: well, Bowie was never about subtlety and this video is the proof of it. Bowie was about Glam, Extravaganza, Spectacle, Artifice: these were the ornaments for the beautiful things he wanted to say and thats exactly what Gaga does. Her childlike admiration for him is also source to a big part of the criticism she has faced throughout her career. The sooner she let go of him, the better... David tho I never said she was the new Bowie though. An herr receives the heritage but does what he or she pleases with it. Gaga is her own kind of artist but his influence on her is major and legitimate.
