It was a lovely Lorde performance but was everything that Bowie was not.

What do you mean?

What people seem to forget with those tributes is actually who was David Bowie.. People want those tributes to be classy, to be sobre, to be everything but extravagant, everything but a show, but David Bowie was the showman, he was a performer on top of everything, he made freaks feel cool ! I don't want some red lights and a girl in a white t-shirt, that's just ignoring Bowie's legacy: I want a tribute to what David Bowie represented !

There is no such thing as a "right" way to do a tribute... When it comes to death, everybody has a different way to deal with it and let it come out, especially with artists. Lorde chose this, Gaga chose what she chose.

I really liked Gaga's performance, she gave all of david bowie in the performance.

I actually think Gaga's vocals and visuals were much better.

But lorde did a good job.

I think Lorde did an amazing job, and she deserves all the praise she's getting!

About the Gaga and Lorde comparisons, I have to say this. The BRITs and the Grammys both took different directions to pay tribute to Bowie. The BRITs took a much more emotional path which came across as more of a 'memorial' with the speeches prior to the performance. I can understand why they took that route considering he was a British artist. The Grammys was more of a celebration. Gaga and Nile said before the performance that they wanted to celebrate Bowie. The purpose of both tributes was different. The Grammys went for something upbeat, the BRITs didn't.

That makes no sense.  Bowie wasn't in clown makeup but for a short portion of his career.

What I will say her vocals just didn't have the dynamic vocal range delivery that Bowie delivers, almost operatically in the dramatic delivery.  It had nothing to do with her clothes.  I don't need an impersonation of Bowie.  But she didn't have the dynamic vocals to make that song take off and come alive the way Bowie did.  But it was a moving performance by Lorde, and I loved the whole beginning with his music and all the clips of him.

What people overlook is the need for tributes to have an appeal to the public. With all honesty, if Lorde did the Grammy tribute, I would not give a flying f*ck about Bowie aside from the fact that she's not famous enough, her tribute is bland, basic and GENERIC. Gaga did Bowie justice by drawing the public's attention. People are so idealistic these days. You need to make compromises and I think that Gaga's choices are worth it. People can always check youtube for Bowie's actual performances.

Thanks for the link you posted,

I really don't care for lordes tribute but LIVE for Gaga's. It was so bright and spirited, more in a celebration of his life and music. Lordes felt more like in mourning.

I guess some people like their tributes subtle but a Bowie tribute should be anything but. At least that's what I feel.

I actually like her voice. :duck:

I liked the intro, it was quite sad.

There is no need for comparison, it was different. Not basic.

You're welcome, booh :hor:

People want to be entertained but their standards on what is "disrespectful" are insanely high. If you are harsh enough to criticize Gaga, you should at least have the BALLS to admit that she was entertaining and that the "flaws" were necessary minor sacrifices to be able to deliver something that Bowie deserves. For people to reduce her performance  to a circus and treat Gaga like some selfish demon who capitalizes on the death of others is extremely unreasonable.

Ya those people who did that are messed up! They are like, Lets take away from something that honors Bowie and spread hatred around it, because it's so david bowie to spread hate.... I can't with those haters.

Gaga killed it and that is all there is to it, haters can hate but at least we get to rewatch that awesome tribute over and over and over again.
