I just found this out: Dr. Puke has been withholding royalties from Kesha for the past THREE years, according to TMZ. She virtually has 0 income.

I know it might be too late, but if you were planning to buy her songs, OR are continuing to stream her music on Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal (if you have that) please stop. You are making only Dr. Puke's wallet bigger, not Kesha's. If you wanna send $ to Kesha, try the GoFundMe page below, please:

Good thing I bought her records when they came out and don't need to stream her stuff. Still, pretty awful how he withheld royalties from her. :(

Just illegally download her stuff if you're curious to listen to her music. You'll kill two birds with one stone by stealing from Dr. Puke and discovering new music :D (Also, don't watch her music videos either).

According to this lawsuit, one of Kesha's claims is that Luke (and Sony) get most of the royalties from her songs. And he also failed to renegotiate her contract after her first album, which is standard industry practice. I don't know if she gets 0 income, but she probably gets very little from royalties.

Unfortunately, this type of situation with regards to royalties isn't unique to Kesha, and it's been happening for decades in the music industry. However, the fact that it's so common makes it easier to believe her in this regard.

Spoiler

Coincidentally, this is why artists need to stop attacking Spotify and start demanding better contracts and more rights to their music. Labels are the ones who get most of Spotify's profit (and most of any song's royalties)... and then give a pittance to artists, who then ask why they get so little. The labels, of course, blame streaming instead of admitting they take most of the pie. If artists got the portion of royalties they deserve, I'm pretty sure they'd be more amenable to streaming.

i like how ya'll are literally punishing every artist under sony as if that's the point of kesha's lawsuit or is helping the situation in any shape or form.

Sometimes extreme measures are necessary to implement change. Not saying I'm for or against it, but pushback and hitting them in the pocket is the only way a corporation will fold.

Maybe that will help speed things up when it comes to cutting that rotting testicle of a producer completely off. :green:

Nod if you wanna make love with the enemy. ❤
