Arizona Sky 10,913
I personally think it did. Remeber when she said at the BB WOTY ceremony, "I got a fire in my belly & couldn't wait to prove you (haters) wrong" ? I think ARTPOP made her realize she can't put together a **** song & get a hit. After the 2009-11 success she thought she could repeat her formula, but she was in for a wake up call! No that she's more cautious, I think she's learned her lessons & is ready to come back better than ever. Don't forget, if it wasn't for AP, Troy would probably still be her manager & not Bobby! I never thought I would say this, but I'm actually glad ARTPOP happened. She's now doing things the way she wants to & is ready to prove everyone wrong. Also at the GGs, she said, "You can create beautiful things out of dark times!" BIG HINT. She obviously gonna write great songs for LG5 about her AP era struggles. It's really true, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Was AP vital to Gaga's career? Are you actually glad it happened? Discuss...
Benji 20,113
I'll wait for LG5 to answer the question properly, we can only hope she's learnt from those mistakes. She claims she has but the proof will be in the pudding I kind of wish ARTPOP didn't happen for personal reasons. Most of the music on there wasn't really to my taste but it did deliver some good little bops like DWUW, Applause, MJH and Venus.
Dorothy Gale 7,575
I think ARTPOP was the era of missed opportunities, so no, I don't agree.
OMonster 14,675
Sorry, but I just adore ARTPOP. I love it, and I always will. I don't see it as part of her career trajectory (perhaps commercially, but certainly not musically) - I think what she delivered was entirely left-wing, exciting and something truly different. Little Monsters are very quick to undermine ARTPOP, but why? I think it's solely because of it's poor acclaim. This was a record made for us, the fans: something different, for the different. That is my belief, anyway. subtext / fantasy
Alcina Dimitrescu 1,156
I'd wait before saying anything. Remember ARTPOP in the beggining was about how she was finally free to do what she wanted etc etc etc and look how it turned out.
Kayla 7,595
I think that it worked out for the better, but it also could have been good if it was as successful as her previous albums. The good thing is that it got her to rethink her approach and take on different projects, but on the other hand had it been uber successful perhaps the positivity from that would have inspired her to do other things that would be just as powerful as what she's done for her "comeback," who knows? The phrase "Everything happens for a reason," is true because there is are consequences to every action, right? But that doesn't mean that the route we got was the best, what was needed most, or produced the most desirable possible outcome. Regardless, it has lead to great things and I am thankful for that. I only wish the ARTPOP era itself (outside of sales specifically) did better in the public eye because she did things that very much injected ART into POP and put herself into art itself, but it seemed to go unnoticed compared to other things she's done. asfittingasmcqueen 2,005
at this point im actually glad it happened too cause now she can't make the same mistakes anymore. She was under so much pressure and thanks to that (and tony) she could prove that she wasn't over. She came back so much stronger and now everyone can recognize her talent. She's everywhere again but this time it's just positive headlines and critical acclaim
Lord Temptation 11,209
ARTPOP was the civil war where Monsters fought Monsters. It's exactly like Gaga predicted in her music video for Born This Way: "the pendulum swung between good and evil". We might ask, "What has Gaga learned?", or "Doesnt she ever listen to us, or even care about us?" But we really ought to ask "What have we learned about ourselves, and what have we learned about Gaga?" Must we fight each other lest we contain the snarling beast within? Chromatislaps 34,851
yes because it spawned inspired albums like ANTI and TLOP j/k I feel it gave way to reboot with a blank slate in a way, so yeah happy she ventured into jazz and film. Can't wait for LG5
braybray23 248
ARTPOP will always be special to me. I'm glad she's happier now and troy and other people who didn't care for her are gone. She's grown alot from it obviously. not an okra
venusfly 17,885
I feel it was a good grounding for her, she learned that she's not unstoppable, this can only mean high quality stuff from here on out.
fratbussy 5
Here's the thing about ARTPOP. Prior to ARTPOP, Gaga's work had much less emphasis on complexity and artistic intent. It was (good) pop music. ARTPOP was a change in direction for Gaga, one that I think was positive. The people who call it a failure (ARTFLOP) don't understand that it's an experimental album. Hopefully, Gaga will be taking the artistic intent she put into ARTPOP and edit it down into a more comprehensive experience for LG5.

SamJ 8,008
The Fame was literally the ultimate pop album Gaga couldn't have had a better breakthrough with her first album The Fame Monster reached even higher heights and produced more chart topping singles just a year after the release of the fame. Born This Way was released when Gaga was ruling the world and Born This Way helped bring a cultural shift to many it was a very inspiring album which was pushing boundaries and topics across the world. ARTPOP after a 2 year break from releasing new pop music there was so much pressure on Gaga to deliver. Her first single Applause was a great song in my opinion but it was more of a grower than an instant hit to the public it wasn't as catchy to listen to first time as Roar by Katy Perry or other big songs around at that time but saying that I thought roar sounded like a stupid children's party song whereas applause was more for adults as it was more heavily produced but saying that it was played loads on radios in America not so much here in the UK it peaked at 4 in US and 5 in UK the music video was massive here so it was a successful comeback song for gaga. And then it seemed to be a messy process with gaga releasing audio for Venus aura and do what u want at the same time and do what u want didn't have a video if do what u want was released more tactically it could have got number 1 in UK the radios loved it here. ARTPOP the album reached number 1 in most countries so I guess that's a success but it didn't sell anywhere near the level of the other three I think its a good album with some really good songs on but there are a few I don't think should have made the cut like Sexxx Dreams Jewels N' Drugs swine. Anyway that's my take on it but it was still a successful album in my eyes
