For me it's the fact she's the reason we have EDM on the radio now, people forget how game changing TF era was- another is she brought back fandamonium and is responsible for what we now call stanbases aka dedicated and somewhat deluded fans.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I think a lot of Gaga's fanbase is too young to remember how utterly DISMAL the music industry was around the time when Gaga came along. It had fallen into a complete slump with generic, uninspired music and boring ass music videos. And then this chick named Lady Gaga came along, and everything EXPLODED. It was mesmerizing to watch, and everyone upped their game after she made her presence known.

i think it's cause most joined when everyone was jacking her style in her peak so they don't realise how terrible radio and pop was with all the indie-alternative and generic r&b inspired songs  and music videos when she debuted.

Dorothy Gale

Most of her achievements are slept on unfortunately. I think Gaga being the first artist to win traditional pop and dance Grammys is an accomplishment that deserves to be talked about more.

but tbh I'd say her activism! bc yeah everyone knows she's super gay, but she literally gave speeches at pride events, made a song/album about being LGBT/loving who you are, urged people to call their senators to end DADT, and soo much more!

Amen. I can remember listening to the radio between 2005 and 07, and it was mostly R&B. Sean Paul, Mary J Blige, Nelly, Ludacris, Alicia Keys, etc. etc. Flashforward to 2011 (after Gaga had taken over the music industry) and pretty much every song had some sort of EDM influence.

...

I don't know if this is fact but I would argue that she was the first person (celebrity or otherwise) to harness social media and use it to its fullest potential. Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube were all still quite young when she burst onto the scene and she was pretty much the first person to dominate all three and really grasp how to use them as marketing tools.

I feel like I constantly try to mention that Gaga collaborated with Robert Wilson on a project for The Louvre.

Like, as an artist having your work hung in The Louvre is the biggest achievement there is. The Mona Lisa, Louis XIV and the Venus de Milo are all displayed in the Art Museum.

It's such a huge deal and it feels like some people would trade that for a number one single without second thought.

I agree, that pretty much everyone was required to step their game up visually and sonically in order to be able to compete with the force of nature that is Gaga. One year prior to The Fame even freaking Beyoncé was walking on red carpets in ugly denim shorts with a denim jacket and Katy Perry looked like a Lizzy McGuire cosplayer.

173 million records sold in 7 years when record sales saw a massive decline. Slept on because some people on here were quick to attempt to discredit this and say she sold way less :saladga:

Tbh If she never existed I don't think Katy Perry wouldn't be as big as she was/is same with Kesha

There wouldn't have been a Sam Smith or Lorde either.

Her kindness. In the modern pop environment where everyone lives for shade and bitchy-ness, and people pit women in pop against each other constantly she hasn't given in to any of it. She had a few moments of weakness like the "looks like green hair and mechanical horse are the in thing now" type of comments (only human after all), but overall she has been gracious and doesn't talk trash about others. It's a huge achievement in this cynical landscape to remain a sweet and good hearted person.
