I agree regarding the treatment of animals, and somewhat agree with your second comment but you're mainly playing with semantics here to try and make it seem like saying a country is backwards is "wrong." Comparing a country like Argentina to a majority of the western world, it's pretty clear what is generally seen as being "backwards." I'd argue the Islamic world is backwards in general compared to the western world, but I'm sure they do something "better" than us too.
