YOUR TOP 15: ADELE HITS #1... AGAIN

Following the Grammys, there's a lot of speculation as to how the numbers may play out at retail. Keep your eyes peeled for an update tomorrow, once we’ve seen a full day of sales. It's safe to say, though, with a performance on the big show under her belt and the power of Valentine's Day-driven purchasing, XL/Columbia's Adele will be #1.

Joey+Rory—a respected country duo (and spouses), who were just nominated for Best Duo/Group Country Vocal Performance—look like they'll have the highest-charting debut this week. The couple's well-documented personal struggles have elicited a strong response from their fans and community.

Adele (XL/Columbia) 160-180k album, 190-210k SPS
Chris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 55-60k, 63-68k
Justin Bieber (RBMG/Def Jam) 45-50k, 95-100k
*Joey+Rory (Gaither) 43-48k, 46-51k
Now 57 (NOW/Legacy) 41-46k
Rihanna (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) 35-40k, 75-80k
The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 28-32k, 53-58k
2016 Grammy Nominees (Republic) 27-30k
Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 27-30k, 40-45k
Kendrick Lamar (TDE/Interscope) 24-27k, 30-35k
Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 24-27k, 35-40k
Coldplay (Parlophone) 21-24k, 28-33k
Twenty One Pilots (Fueled By Ramen) 19-21k, 43-48k
Kevin Gates (Bread Winner’s Association) 19-21k, 30-35k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 17-19k, 23-26k [21]

*Debut

Adele's on her final leg though.

I called this (despite Adele stans arguing with me) that Columbia/XL would tell Adele to drop WWWY because it was just a lackluster second single. "Hello" was bound to be massive, but clearly that front loaded nature of everyone buying the record has hurt Adele's single performances.

WWWY peaked at #22 after heavy streaming and promo and a viral youtube video. After 15 charting weeks it's down to #29. And before anyone says "Well it hasn't been made an official single yet" I will remind you that Dope was #8, Do What U Want (originally a promo) was #12, and Venus was #24 before ARTPOP was released and we're promo singles.

All I Ask is Adele's third attempt at a hit off of 25, and although I find it to be one of her BEST songs ever, I feel it won't breakthrough. The Grammy performance was an unfortunate mess that through Adele's normal vocal skill off, and people overbought the album. They already own the singles.

This is why I hope Gaga opens to mild numbers. (In between ARTPOP and BTW numbers). If she gets around 600K, she can do similar to Bieber, obtain 3 or 4 #1s, maybe 5 top five hits, and have a long era with time to show the entire concept.

Obviously her sales are going down now, but she is about to be #1 selling 160-180k in her TWELTH WEEK!! That is a drastic difference when you compare her to ARTPOP or any other recent album. Not to mention, she has sold enough to outsell every artist for the next two years probably. Also, Hello is STILL #5 on the hot 100 and everywhere on the radio. It's difficult to have a second single when the first is still EVERYWHERE. I don't agree that there has been massive promo for WWWY, but I don't think her label is worried/trying because of the performance of the album on the Billboard 200 and Hello on the Billboard Hot 100 and that's after two months! Gaga's album and single sales were much lower when those songs hit those peaks. If Adele had been quiet for a while and let Hello die down, WWWY would have done much better, in my opinion.

Yeah I said Hello is doing remarkably well but the era was frontloaded.

Difficult to have a second single when your first is everywhere?

The Fame Monster says hi. Bad Romance, Telephone, and Alejandro were all being played at the same time and saw huge numbers.

I think Adele should have released multiple singles before the release of 25. Hello, WWWY, All I Ask, and Send My Love could have all been Top Five hits.

I ALSO am not stanning so hard for Adele because of 25's creativity. It didn't offer anything that 21 didn't. And it showed to me Adele is a classic icon, but not a groundbreaking one.

I can agree that she could have released multiple singles before the album and had top 5 hits. I guess they wanted to focus more on the album sales and go for huge opening sales with the hype surrounding her comeback.

Omg she is so hitting that 10M mark in the US with 25 :applause:

Not Adele selling more after 3 months of release and 8M copies sold than some pop stars in their debut week!
