The fact of the matter is, you are still talking about these "flops" thus they are successful. If All You Ever Do Is Look Down On People, You Won't Be Able To Recognize Your Own Weaknesses. But I think he was talking about the reaction of a whole society over something and how brainless some critics can be because they are soiled by their feelings. It's important to express your feelings, but sometimes they are possessing you in a way that you are not able to express a logical opinion. This makes me wonder it the critics are at fault here or if the receivers are. Because if we view a critic as just the opinion of that single person and not him or her speaking for 'everybody'/'people that know about music'/ 'smart people' or whatever. Someone can then find a critic they can relate to. Critics should explain why they don't like something or why they do so their receivers can judge if they have common ground. I often find people dish out criticism without them taking a second to see things from the perspective of the artist their critiquing. Not everything has to be set to certain high standards, especially in entertainment. Take things for what they are. It's hard to express what I mean to say in English, sorry. There is a famous French quote saying: "La critique est aisée mais l’art est difficile". It means that criticism is easy, but art is not. You can criticize a performance or a painting, but can you do the same ? I feel like it's what you wanted to say.
