In Defence of Intel

General consensus on this site seems to be that people were underwhelmed by the technology aspect of Gaga's tribute, and that Intel's involvement has been overhyped.

While it is undeniable that the expectations of those who frequent this site were not met--no, there was no holographic piano, no butterfly dress--it is equally true that those expectations were to high to have been met anyway; the technology required for fans' expectations simply do not exist yet, or are not reliable enough for inclusion in a live performance.

What we DID have, however, is some very impressive LIVE face-mapping projections and choreographed robotics (the piano), in conjunction with some very impressive 3d movement tracking and live-rendered animations. The an unimaginable amount of processing power and technological innovation was required to achieve those effects, and I'm pretty certain that the technology showcased tonight will prove to be indispensable in future live music performances.

Finally, let's all congratulate Gaga for a heartfelt, passionate tribute :)

It was amazing and people done understand how complicated it takes to make that kind of technology. Like serious it would have taken Intel half a decade to pull off some people's expectations

I must admit, I was very disappointed by the tech used in the performance. Gaga slayed. Intel, not so much.

oh well oh hell I guess

I agree, I mean, it's not easy to do what they did in that scale but I think something went wrong, I think there were more effects that were supposed to happen but didn't for some reason, Gaga as always gave an amazing performance, It was just too hyped.

We have two selves. One the world needs us to be, compliant, and the shadow. Ignore it and life is forever suffering.

GaGa brings some CES ass tech demos to the Grammys stage and y'all still aint satisfied with the tech element of the performance. Yes all of this has been done before but certainly not like that and not in a real performanec setting.

Did you expect her to personally invent some revolutionary tech for this performance or something?

Intel just hyped things up too much and naturally we were let down.

I think to much over the top Technology would have been a detraction from Bowie tribute.  I think the Intel Tech will be involved with Lg5 especially with the huge announcement on gmc tomorrow.:laughga:

A technology business worth 100 billion dollars thought this was incredible enough to market the new direction they're going in and the little monsters still aren't happy with GaGa. :smh:

I still have no idea why everyone was talking about holograms :duck:

The Face Recognition/mapping was incredibly precise until Gaga moved too fast but it catched up quite well.

When they did the echo/tunnel effect with Gaga on the screen, the software seemed to freaked out because a cameraman was running around before Gaga stood there, and when Nile and Gaga were standing next to each other performing, the screen was just black. I guess something didn't work there.

But I didn't see how they use the Curie (the Wrist motiontracker) tho :/

I'm happy with this performance tho, I think it was the best of the night

I was also surprised at first that the performance didn't have MORE... But I also have to admit I'm glad the technological aspect of the performance didn't overshadow its main purpose: paying tribute to David Bowie.

No, I don't think everything worked without a hitch, and the wrist motion tracker did not work its full potential (though I am convinced that the animations during Heroes had some correlation to her movement). However, considering that this was a night in which not even a microphone was set up correctly (poor Adele), the fact that things went as smoothly as they did is a miracle in itself :)
