Amazing breakthrough. This will probably win the Nobel Prize in Physics.

doesn't Albert already have one?:air:

i'm pretty sure both the theoretical and the experimental physicist(s) get the Nobel prize.

This discovery might get us one step closer though.

Might, only might :(

I will never see a big bang from a spaceship hotel in another galaxy :(

But seriously now, my knowledge about this subject is really basic, like what they teach us in school for few lessons.. I would be happy to get an explanation about how it's going to help us now and what we can discover now :)

Why you want that, we don't have laser gun yet to defend ourselves from invasions :laughga:

Hmm but we have no? laser tag.. it's not real? so HIMYM lied to me all this time?:omg:

The theory of relativity has always been supported, it's only the fact Einstein stated that once 2 black holes collide, the energy released will create a gravitational ripple effect. This has been the only time that scientists observed a proof for THAT prediction but for the whole theory, it has been proven many times before ;)

Exactly, it's kind of ridiculous to speak of Relativity being proven -- it was proven a century ago, and re-confrimed many times since.

Then again, we also know that Relativity is an incomplete description of reality, and it's destined someday to be subsumed by a more comprehensive theory, just as it in turn did to Newtonian "classical" physics. Yet Newton's laws remain valid for many purposes, and so will Einstein's.

Hopefully, we get in contact with outer life soon! So they can take over earth and enslave us! it'll be karma against us all since we can't even take care of earth  :gaycat:

If this isnt news i dont know what is!!! Amazing, it also proves by that than the space and time can be distorted, and the time inst linear...wow, just wow

Einstein would have deserved one too since after all he came up with the theory. But you can't win a Nobel Prize dead. However, the main scientists behind the LIGO team will definitely get one.

Technically, had he been alive he would also have gotten one. He basically deserves at leas 3 Nobel Prizes for his big discoveries.
