Honestly I stan this song. But I'm from Houston so I will stan anything she does. This definitely has a southern spin to it.

I don't really care for the song but appreciate its boldness and meaning :applause:

Oh look, a post from someone who isn't a fan on the song sonically but still found a respectful way to explain that. And not ignoring the social importance of the song.

Some of you are reacting like some straight boys with BTW. "It's stupid, I don't understand this gay crap."

Like, you can dislike the song's sound. But don't undermine it's importance because you're not black or because you can't relate.

from a black blogger on tumblr

"that video was about the black victims of police brutality, embracing your black roots, not assimilating with white culture and loving your wide nose, afro, baby hairs, dark skin, big lips, just everything about being black and her daughter omg and her little afro like that video is going to teach so many black kids to love themselves and to love being black so many black representation in the video…"

The video itself is a great video, well-shot and well-directed with great visuals.

The song itself though....will do no favors for the black community. By trying to make her sound "ghetto" and "cool" with words like "swag", "slay", "hoe"--she just comes across as fake and pandering to me.

That's all you have to say? That's your opinion. And that's cool. But what I wrote was a response to your insinuation they're intending of this being a worldwide smash. And it isn't.

But that's cool. My post is backed up by their deals. Yours is just your opinion.

???

I don't have to write an essay about a song that's wack. The video pretty much speaks for itself imo :hor:

Still, I'm sure her dropping the song 1 day for her performance so it will reach out to over 100 million people is not meant for the masses. I do like some of the excuses for the inevitable flops though. Let's save em in case we need them when lg5 drops :applause:

Such a well-explained, though-out response. Some of you people... Open your minds. "Diva releases urban, non-commercial song." World Ends.

No that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that if a song isn't the pop bop you girls hope for, it's all of a sudden "not good". A song DOESN'T have to have a catchy chorus in order for it to be good. In order to reach masses and entertain people like you and 80% of this board, it does. But that's exactly the point of this song and video. F*ck the masses, let her do her thing. It's raw and it's urban. If you don't like it, you have her entire discography of catchy songs to enjoy.

And why would you bother bringing up Beyonce's writing anyway? Like, if you simply googled the making of her previous album, you'd see she is in and out of the writer groups that were working on the songs. She also contributed to all of them and she curated the entire project. Why are you guys obsessed with writing credits? Do you also dislike Whitney Houston for not writing IWALY? When a song fits with an artist, it fits. Regardless of who wrote it. I understand frustration with artist that contribute almost NOTHING to their careers, theres a few of those pop-bots, but Beyonce is obviously not that. The woman fired her goddamn father in order to have complete control over her career.

You can sit.

i am slayed by your posts  :applause:

good song and video, even better message
