Some of us may be old enough to remember when peak oil and oil depleation was a serious threat. Im only 22 and I remember when i was in my early teens this issue was spoken of often.

Then came Oil Sands, then came better techniques for deep sea drilling and now Shale... The surge in new resources is so vast that OPEC for the first time since 1980s is being forced to fight competition rather than cutting production to raise prices.

The news for environment gets worse. The revolutionairy new extraction technologies are only beggining. Only 5% to 10% of unconventional reserves are considered extractable at this time. But improvements underway will make it cheaper to extract hard to get oil AND increase recovery rates increasing our reserves even more.

The climate cannot withstand all these reserves being burned which means any hopes of oil shortages forcing change are now dead within our lifetimes as there wont be any shortages within 50-100 years at the earliest. If there is to be a decarbonization of the economy it will be up to Governments to stay commited

They don't care since they'll be dead anyway. Most humans are too myopic.

This is really sad and concerning

It truly is, indeed.  I feel so sorry for the generations to come.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Yes, I don't even want to imagine what kind of world this will be in about 50 to 100 years from now.   :ohno:

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Well most Countries in the world are net importers of oil and have to pay for it. I can see many Nations ditching oil in a snap if it was easy to do so and didnt require such expensive investments

Nations like Canada where I live with massive reserves of 175 billion barrels (3rd largest in the world) and where thats our biggest export yes, a green economy is a threat to our economy

Many Countries are getting rid og Coal plants for green electricity tho. That already helps a lot. Coal is the dirtiest of the 3 main fossil fuels!!!
