Do you think having Gaga tribute to Bowie is not enough respect for him?

I'm sure it's not in her intentions to make the performance about herself, that's honestly up to how the audience preceives it.

Do they want her to cover her face and mask her voice?:duck:

The only reason people are up in arms about this is because they think she's a dumb blonde who only sings generic pop songs and wears silly outfits. There wouldn't be this much protest had they chosen some simple ass band to do the tribute.

Mmmm I kind of agree. I am still looking forward to the performance but it's a big job to create a performance as a homage to Bowie as he has had so many different eras, identities and sounds, three to four songs is not really enough.

I hope Gaga kills it because this could quite easily turn messy for her.

How is this tribute any different to the Frank Sinatra tribute?

I have 100% faith that Gaga will do well and be respectful. As MASSIVE fans of both artists I will say this: Gaga and Bowie equal in talent, creativity and ambition. However, Bowie's work is leaps and bounds more artistic and complex than Gaga's current output so I understand people's opinions of her not being good enough for him. Of course, Bowie has 50 years worth of output whilst Gaga has less than 10.

Maybe the fact that many people are still mourning over Bowie's death?

But you're right. It shouldn't be any different.

imagine the amount of pressure she's getting this month for the super bowl and especially the grammys as she is such a big fan and he's a huge star

I suppose one could very well argue that Gaga is the very embodiment of Bowie's legacy! Without Bowie, Gaga as we know her would probably not have existed...

So...the person who wrote this article thinks that no one should do a tribute for Bowie. She thinks that the Grammys should just have a montage for Bowie, while BB King and Glenn Fry get tributes?

Bad idea.

There's a lot of pressure on her shoulders but I'm sure she'll pull it off.

Every tribute to someone who passed is a beautiful thing. You can never live up to their legacy, but that's not the point, you are celebrating it, honouring it. And you should do it in your own personal way. Not everyone may like it but they can never truly dismiss it, because a tribute done right is very very personal, emotional and part of the performers unique connection with the honoree.

Even if this is performed for the whole world, it's still Gaga (and the Haus, Nile etc ) saying goodbye to Bowie in the way she feels is true to them both. If someone feels different, they should tribute him in the way that feels most true to them.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Something people are forgetting is that Gaga gave up two planned performances of her own music, when she was asked to do this tribute for her idol.

Gaga is doing the very OPPOSITE of "making this about herself"!

She changed her plans and canceled her planned performances to pay tribute to an artist she respected greatly. I expected no less from someone like Gaga!

Yeah, Kanye West would be much better to perform that tribute, his work was always speaking to Bowie's work, unlike GaGa's

On the face of it... It shouldn't matter.

People will be mourning him for years to come. Grammys is the perfect time. Celebrating music in all forms and the god of the alt scene should be celebrated, and who better to tribute than Gaga?

Madonna (as someone who I read as someone to do it) wouldn't make sense as she is on tour but also is from the old pop era, we need to bring the new audience to be exposed to his brilliance through someone who has studied him and tributes most of her work to him.

Gaga is the only one who can make a tribute with dignity and that's a fact. She is a huge fan of Bowie and the world knows about it. They may say that she's not enough good to tibute him but they'll see and shut up!

Yes, I do think it's disrespectful for him to pick her as the performer for his tribute. Bowie never EVER praised Gaga in any way and even though he is one of Gaga's biggest inspirations, it doesn't mean she should have done it.

They should have picked someone close to him.
